Looks like we'll have a new striker within 48 hours according to the latest SAF interview.
He reckons there'll be a surprise come Sunday.

could be the unveiling of the new number 2.

Nah, Fergie's said he won't rush it. Berbatov was on the bench for Spurs today so that could add further twists to the plot - also Spurs are expected to get Arshavin this weekend.

I doubt if we sign anyone that they will be ready for Newcastle though, even if it's Berbatov it'll be next week at the earliest.

2pm still no news? fingers crossed for 4

Seriously, I wouldn't expect too much - I doubt we've got a striker to unveil or anything.

Jesus, Chelski just tore Pompey to shreds! Gotta hit the ground running.

Giggs and Carrick off injured. Possebom gets his debut. Lacking that certain something with no Tevez, Ronaldo, Carrick, Nani or Giggs...

VANTHEMAN is BACK!!!!!!
woohoo

anyways...was very dissapointed mannn
it sucked
especially seeing chelsea outclass pompey..they surely seem teh side to beat.
we did ahve many players absent, but somehow we did lack alot of finishing.
and to add to our msiery, carrick and giggs injured..i mean wtf...

i was impressed by campbell...towards the end he did steam out..
and wats with possebon?lack of ball control and vision

and another question...whats with roonehy...he isnt the finished product but still...he is never aware of players closing dpown on him from behind and ends up losing the ball..his cross field passes were also not complete and were too weak...ki have no clue but seeing chelsea and how they are now equipped in every department, its gonna be tough ...
cause we never outmargined them last season, we were pushed till the last day of the season.

We won the CL and EPL. I think that makes us the team to beat.
I thought you could def see that Rooney wasn't 100% fit.
A big blow to lose Tevez just before, too.

tht is true mate
but seeing the balance of squad chelsea now have...we may argue...
but still early birds now...lets see how it unfolds after 7-8 games..hopin for the positive..

Dissapointing start to the season. But there is still a long way to go. We played decent today considering the situation we are in. it is quite encouraging to know that we have a lot of great players on the sidelines so it can only get better ones we are back to full fitness and a complete squad

I think the obvious thing is we need a striker ASAP. Even if Tevez had been playing alongside Rooney, we simply had no options up front to change things. Newcastle did well and they impressed me - especially Gutierrez, but United were the architects of their own downfall today - Edwin looked somewhat shaky and was arguably at fault for the goal.

So already we are playing catch up - Pompey away next and then trips to Anfield and The Bridge which are three games that we need to be 100% for we simply cannot afford to stutter like we did last season - because we won't get a second chance this time.

No reason to panic. Dont forget,We drew our 1st game last season as well. Rooney has to really step it up this season. I am expecting better performances from him. Campbell did well. Carrick was a huge loss. Man, injuries suck.

Berbatov wants to come to United;

It's funny watching the texts on Setanta sports news, all these fans saying we're nothing without Ronaldo - the fact is even if we'd have had Carlos Tevez we would have won, we should have won anyway.

United reserves are playing a friendly tonight against Chelsea - KO 7PM Live on MUTV.

Might be a chance for the Da Silva twins to shine again.

Always disappointing to start with a draw against a team that we put 11 goals past last season, but that's football. And to be fair, the Barcodes thoroughly deserved it.

I think Tevez missing the game was key. Rooney was half-fit and Campbell lacks PL experience. Then Carrick and Giggs going off due to injuries. Fletcher was sleeping when Martins scored but at least he made amends. O'Shea SHOULDN'T be playing in midfield.

Absolutely. Fletcher's overall play has improved somewhat though and John O'Shea struggled in midfield, but with a full squad it won't happen - this was an emergency. The thing that concerns me is we now have three straight away trips to three really tough places, Pompey (where our record is awful) Liverpool and Chelsea, that fixture computer really screwed us this time!

Still with a couple of international breaks as long as the internationals come through unscathed, we should hopefully have something approaching a full squad by then.

someone posted some news about berb in the soccer forum, sounds like its just rumour's but i really hope there some truth to it. Can you imagine the formation.

Berbatov
Rooney-Tevez-Ronaldo
Carrick/Anderson - Scholes/Owen

with cover for winger/strikers with giggs, nani, Campbell, saha manucho (if we every get a permit) Enough to worry any team. Then dont forget probably one the best defensive lineup's in the world.

Cant wait till were back to full strength, just hope its not too late with the way chelsea are playing.
