Trivia
  • The 2008–09 season is Manchester United's 17th season in the Premier League, and their 34th consecutive season in the top division of English football.
  • Should Manchester United win the Premier League 2008-09 title, they will join Liverpool as the most successful club in terms of English top flight titles with 18.
  • The Club will make it's first trip to Nigeria, which has United's Fourth Largest Fan Base.
  • Ole Gunnar Slosjkaer, United Legend, will jointly take over as the Reserve Team Coach.
  • A new third kit is due to be released in September, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the club's European Cup win in 1968.
  • This season there will be four ex-United Players managing in the Premier League. Steve Bruce (Wigan), Mark Hughes (Manchester City), Paul Ince (Blackburn), Roy Keane (Sunderland) make up the list. Interestingly enough they have all played under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Rivalries

United's number one rival is difficult to determine. Traditionally, the closest rivals have been Liverpool, Manchester City and Leeds, though Arsenal and Chelsea have come into the frame in recent years. Currently, most fans see Liverpool as their biggest rivals, due to the success of both clubs as well as their proximity to each other, while others rate intra-city rivals Manchester City as their biggest rivals. The Liverpool rivalry began during the 1960s when the two clubs were among the strongest in England, and have been competing closely just about every season since. The Manchester City rivalry dates back to the Newton Heath era of the 1890s, and has remained fierce due to both clubs being in the same division for much of their history.

No probs mate!
It is my duty as a United supporter. Thanks to Stotty because some part of that intro is from last year's thread created by Stotty.

hopefully this will be just as good season as last season was (or even better if we somehow win the treble).

just checked and solskjaer testimonial tickets are on sale from tomorrow, could be a decent match.

cant wait for next season. Lets hope we start better then last season.

Apparently there's been a development on Ronaldo. Sky sports news is saying Ronaldo is very confused because his family, Real, scholari have been putting pressure on ronny to move to spain.

I guess this is where ronny realises he ain't going anywhere, real have come forward to saying they wont put forward the money in the rumours and that all along he was always a red :blah:

I really looking forward to who we snatch up. I'm guessing there's at least 1 striker in the works. Not really heard anything though...

Yes, I will obviously like to see some new players. Snejder will be great as will Sergio Ramos or Ronaldinho. Robinho won't be that bad a choice either.

The only difference between last season and this one is that We managed to rap up most of our deals very early but there has not been much progression this time around.

He would have to get a few due to the fact we sold one player, one retired and garry/saha injured practically all season with more on the verge of retirement.

Just a question of who they get. I wonder if they will get any stars of euro 2008.

haha what if we end up signing no one.

Don't worry - Fergie will send Darren Fletcher in to save us! (jk)

Apparently Paul Ince has warned us off Roque Santa Cruz, and Sneijder reckons he's playing at "the best club in the world" (in his opinion) but did admit he's flattered. There goes that idea then.

Arshavin wants to go to Barca.

Podolski is making enquiries about his future with Bayern (We have to go for him) and there's no squeak on the "he who must not be named" saga (unless you believe Daily Mirror BS that is)

All in all another day in the Silly season with United's transfer targets then. Fergie and David Gill are on their respective holidays (although you can bet Fergie's on his phone all day) so nothing official likely to happen in the next few days.

Oh and the ticketline for Ole's testimonial is in meltdown.

I wonder what gems they have up there sleeve this season. There was Larson that season then the anderson, nani & Hargreaves bag. Wonder what mysteries will will get this season. Berb would be nice.

Dunno - but when you mention transfer gems you gotta add Nemanja and Patrice! Fergie will bring the right players in - have faith.

Podolski and Berbatov would be on my wishlist though, as well as Quaresma.

2 right, Vidic snd Evra have been great! Took a while for Evra to settle and turn good but turn good he did! Talking about left backs, anyone know how Henzie has been doing at Real?

I hope we get the token British player this season.
