That shirt is too big for that guy. Fit is everything. It also runs the waist cost, which ends looking long, baggy and loose.

That guy is actually me.

I agree that the shirt is a little bit too big. I have a hard time finding perfectly fitting dress shirts, as I'm so lanky. Vest fits better, seems to be a bit loose on the shoulders in the pic, which makes it wrinkle and seem too large.

So I bought a skinny tie today. Wasn't sure what I had to wear with it, so I just grabbed some clothes. Do either of these work? I must admit I didn't care for them when I initially took the pictures, but now I actually think they're okay. Is one better than the other? Yes I am fat. Forgot to put shoes on in the second pic :$

This thread has basically become my non-sex girlfriend.

Try with cardigan. Cardigan make people looks fatter though

Nephews toys :$

fender, I say definitely yay because I think skinny tie and vest go well with "fun interpretations", but if you can't find a vest for some reason I don't think you can go wrong under that dress code with the Barack Obama

You don't have to be as conservative as full navy suit and a blue oxford shirt, but like a purple gingham shirt and some grey flannel pants with the navy blazer would look good. As an example, I cite this homo I found by googling... I would obviously say avoid the pocket square and double breasted blazer unless you want to look like you're captaining a team at the America's Cup. Also I'm not a fan of brass buttons again for reasons of looking too formal, but I guess that makes it a sportcoat instead of a blazer technically? Whatever.

Anyway, that's what I'd do; the Obama look with this guy's pants and shirt.

Love the combover Jakko.

Problem I see with vest shopping is that I can find some good ones online, but I'd like to try it on and get the perfect fit, because screwing one up would look awful. But the few I'd see in stores will be painfully expensive.

Also, Allen Edmonds are made just like 20 miles from where I live; I'm actually planning on hitting a couple vintage/donation stores tomorrow to see if I can find some and then just have them restored or resoled for a fraction of the price.

Already have a vest that fits well so that's good to go. Am contemplating adding a accessory to it something like this a lego heart brooch(Pardon the gay looking guy) pinned to the vest. I'm thinking it would add a slice of fun to the outfit. Too gay and informal?

There probably will be some decent single ladies there, would help to make for a nice conversation starter.

Some accessories are nice, but not that one. I myself have a golden clef in my suit Carlos*et, has really opened a couple conversations, when people have asked me about it or complimented me about it.

If you want an accessory, my suggestion would be cufflinks! I think the lego heart is way too gaudy, but if it's a "peacocking" accessory, so be it. Just realize that it will never be "stylish" per se.

Golden clef sounds a bit wanky to me sorry Jab.

But I agree with you and Shifty regarding the lego brooch.

Shifty, I find it hard to give too much advice on the skinny tie thing, because over here, they're normal fashion.

Though, with your chequered shirt, it's almost nerd chic, which I think has another season in it (as long as it's not the over the top nerd chic with fake glasses etc which I don't like so much). A vest that fits properly would work really well with the grey pants too.

It's a really small pin, gift from my grandfather, and taking my musical personality into account, I think it suits me nicely. Never got anything negative about it.

When I was at the department store buying it I was talking to the clerk wondering if they had any cheaper ones and he said that was all they had and was like "but you'll be on the cutting edge of fashion". I responded that I had seen them around for a few years, but he was right in that I remember going into a men's store maybe 5 years ago and essentially getting laughed out of the place when I asked for one. But I also said I didn't think they ever really went out of style in England, and I just assume Australia is the same, but with stupider sounding accents.

Hahaha, well less wanky sounding accents. And stupider than central and west london, but much better sounding than any of the various accents from the North of England, East London, the midlands or the south west.

Melbourne and Sydney fashion is usually a tiny bit behind Europe, which is basically the same as the continent, but less edgy (from my experience travelling anyway). Although English fashion can often be very niche-ey as well. With loads of people still wanting to be mods, punks etc.

I want to be a mod, but I couldn't do my hair like that, it looks stupid.

Actually speaking of mod, Shifty, based on the look you're going for with those skinny ties, check out Ben Sherman stuff. Knowing you, you probably won't want to buy any of it ($$), but check out what they're wearing on the website/catalogue etc, and also check ebay for good fakes (as they get the style right, in worse material usually).

Yeah, I guess I'd probably agree with Arnau. Then again, maybe the Canadian dollar is so strong these days that they'd be cheap, I don't know.
