Went to the thrift store today and came back with such a great haul.

I'm about 75% positive that this is the Prince of Wales Plaid pattern that I've been obsessively looking at online for the last few weeks. White Chinos. Killer. Has a Marshall Fields label on it, so it's 10 years old at a minimum, but at least I know it's not a piece of complete ****, and I couldn't find anything wrong with it either, although the buttons FEEL small to me.

Then I bought 2 pairs of shoes which I didn't think I could pass up in good conscience.

The second pair are probably not wearable, but I can have them restored. The loafers are probably fine to wear tonight if I wanted. Both are Allen Edmonds!

Grant Total of everything before tax: 26.97! Thrift stores!

Jakko, what does Burgundy go with?

Wow. Nice finds. 2 pairs of AEs and a blazer for basically free? I need to find me some good thrift stores. Might be tougher to find my sizes, though.

Burgundy shoes go really well with a grey suit, for example. Basically, it can go with almost anything. With the white jeans, blazer look, those shoes could look really good. They go with light shades of brown too, imo, such as the tone of 4ndr3i's chinos. And obv different shades of blue.

Mostly light colours, I'd say.

When I set out the biggest question I had was "okay, where do the people from the rich suburbs donate their old clothes?" The fact that the guy who donated those shoes had the same size feet as me (13, not average) is amazingly good luck. There was also a nice pair of Bostonian shoes in good condition, but the size was wrong. There are tons of blazers of every color, and men's fashion never really changes except at the extremes, but still there weren't than many I liked. The fact that this blazer may seems like it was tailored to my body is ridiculous luck as well. I don't want to go back out of fear of jinxing myself.

have this first date on Wednesday with a cute girl I like. Thinking of going like this. Does this work, or do I maybe need to get something like a scarf (same color as the chinos)?

i'd go with a white t-shirt

Yeah, white v-neck is a possibility. Don't know why, but I think I kinda like the black one better.

With chinos, leather and suede shoes look always good. If you have some casual chukkas for example, brown would go great with the bottom. From hi-tops and plimsolls, I'd prefer hi-tops, as I think they match better with chinos, plimsolls are better with jeans or more summery fit (shorts, rolled up chinos, etc).

The colour palette is so simple, that you can basically go with any colour.

I don't have chukkas, although I wish i ******* did. :( And the only brown suede stuff I have are a pair of adidas superstars.. nad I highly doubt that would work. I do have two pairs of casual high tops that I think will do(one black, one greyish). Thinking of going with the black one to match the T.

And wow Shifty that two-button blazer looks great ! Nice find. I'm thinking of getting something like that in the near future.

I really should get on the ebay game. Tougher for euros though. :( Some sick barely used stuff for ridiculous prices. Actually just surfing some e-shops. So tempted with so many pieces. Haven't ever ordered anything though. Can't quite bring myself to buying most items without trying them on.

Pardon the shoddy pics, how does this look? Does are dark blue chinos can't really tell from the pic.

Can't say much based on the pics, as the fit and colors are a bit tough to see, so the only thing I can make of that is, that the collar is too wide for that skinny tie.

I'm 5.5 hours away from scoring an authentic WWII A-2 Leather Bomber Carlos*et for $49 on ebay.

Bam, got it.

Also just the super classic J.Crew blue striped crewneck for $20. Not a huge discount, but it does retail for $80 and coming up on the season for it, so pretty good.

Right now I'm the leading bidder on a cashmere Alan Paine V-Neck for $16.99. Probably going to be my last ebay purchase for awhile unless something is just too good to pass up.

One more thing, I wore my desert boots with some olive chino shorts today and just a navy t-shirt supporting a basketball team that was playing, which is kind of a bold move I think. However, I did some googling and the best way to describe the look, which I completely felt while seeing myself in mirrors throughout the day, was that it gives a bit of a joie de vivre.

Did I miss read this somewhere, does the rest of the world not wear button down collars? I'm not suggesting wearing it with a tie, but under a V-neck or sportcoat it's perfect! How has this not left America?

I love button downs. But I have to agree, that it seems to be a bit less common in Europe. Most of my shirts have spread collars. Actually, I think I only have 3 purely casual button down shirts, and 1 white button down. All of them are pretty recent purchases. So it's a new trend for me, too. I just feel that shirts tend to look better with a button down collar. Especially when wearing them one button open.
