thing is, no one has proven a damn thing in terms of our strikers and its frustrating to see all of our goals come from midfield or totti. but, with that being said cassano will not be coming back anytime soon but to see him apologize on tv to totti and the team is a good sign for the future. he still is 23. and who knows what the future will bring.
Spalletti shelves Cassano talk
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luciano Spalletti claims he has “more important things to think about” than Antonio Cassano’s comeback appeal, as Roma welcome Fiorentina to the capital.
“Let us talk about real facts here, enough has been said about Cassano,” snapped the Coach in today’s Press conference.
The former Giallorossi starlet has been frozen out of the Real Madrid squad following a row with Fabio Capello and said in a television interview he’d gladly “walk to Rome on foot” if it meant playing for them again.
“What counts is Sunday’s game, not Cassano. I was unable to get much out of him while he was here, and of course that is the real regret, but the matter is over with. Cassano belongs to Real Madrid.”
Roma are the favourites to win against Spalletti’s home-town club, especially as Luca Toni is ruled out by injury.
“It’ll be an even game, even if Toni is absent. This match can tell us a lot about our potential, as we’ll be facing an important adversary.”
It’s particularly spicy, as last season these two sides battled it out for months over the final Champions League spot. Fiorentina pipped them to the post, but due to the Calciopoli trial it was Roma who entered the competition.
“We deserved to be in Europe for what we expressed on the pitch, including in the head to head encounters with Fiorentina. I also have to acknowledge, though, that what happened was not the fault of the players, who earned their place in the top four.”
There was reassuring news for Spalletti, as the injury crisis is calming down and even Cristian Chivu could play after picking up a knock to his left knee in training.
“Chivu is fine, it was a false alarm. Amantino Mancini and Mirko Vucinic are doing pretty well after long lay-offs, but we’ll have to wait and see how the situation pans out before deciding when they’ll feature. We must evaluate the risks we’re running for one or both of them.”
It’s believed that the Brazilian will start in a 4-1-4-1 system with Francesco Totti the lone striker upfront and Daniele De Rossi in front of the defence.
Roma squad: Alberto Aquilani, Marco Cassetti, Cristian Chivu, Gianluca Curci, Daniele De Rossi, Rodrigo Defendi, Alexander Doni, Ricardo Faty, Matteo Ferrari, Amantino Mancini, Philippe Mexes, Vincenzo Montella, Christian Panucci, Simone Perrotta, David Pizarro, Aleandro Rosi, Rodrigo Taddei, Max Tonetto, Francesco Totti, Valerio Virga, Mirko Vucinic, Carlo Zotti
