Chivu didn't even make the bench against Empoli?! Is he injured again or was it punishment for his terrible performance against Valencia?

PS: those Roma jerseys look awful once the players start to sweat (N)

Palermo striker Davide Di Michele admits he harbours a dream to play for hometown club Roma.
"As a Roman and a Romanista, to wear the Giallorossa shirt and to even be at the side of Totti, would be an honor and a pleasure," said the Italy international.

"For the future, one never can say never, but to play with Roma would be a fulfillment of a dream."

Mexes still a target for Real Wednesday 4 October, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Real Madrid have not ruled out the idea of signing Roma defender Philippe Mexes – although the Giallorossi insist he’s untouchable.

The 24-year-old Frenchman landed in Rome in 2004 after being convinced to join by then Coach Fabio Capello and sporting director Franco Baldini.

Now the duo, who both joined the Spanish giants in the summer, seem keen on having him in Madrid to strengthen their rearguard.

“Capello wants Mexes,” said transfer guru Ernesto Bronzetti to the Guerin Sportivo magazine. “Roma, however, consider the player untransferable and are not willing to discuss any offer.”

Mexes was already paired with a move to Spain during the summer, when newly-signed Fabio Cannavaro praised his qualities and invited him to join him in La Liga.

“I am flattered that Real Madrid thought about me, but now I am at Roma, where I am totally fulfilled and ambitious,” said the defender. “We want to win some titles here.”

Despite Roma’s strenuous opposition to the player’s move, Baldini and Capello seem set to insist in their plan to guarantee their club Mexes’ services and may make a move as early as January.

Mexes has made a good start to the season and is also looking to break back into the French national side after missing out on the World Cup in Germany.

Mexes commits to Roma
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Philippe Mexes has snubbed interest from Real Madrid by committing his future to Italian giants Roma.

The Frenchman was courted by Real during the summer and recent reports suggest that the Merengues may launch a fresh bid in January.

However, the former Auxerre man insists he has no desire in leaving the Stadio Olimpico.

“I am happy to be at Roma and I feel really good here,” said the French international stopper on Friday.

“Being linked to a club like Real Madrid is flattering and gives you great satisfaction, but I want stay here and win with my teammates.

“I am ambitious, I want to win an important title and I will do so with this Roma outfit.

“The club is aiming high and has an important project – I want to be a part of it. That is why I will stay here for a long time.”

Mexes’ present deal with Roma expires in 2008 and talks over a renewal have already started with his agent Olivier Jouanneaux.

Olympiakos 0 - 1 Roma
Perrotta 76 (R)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Simone Perrotta's goal conquered Athens as Roma won 1-0 at Olympiakos to give themselves a good chance of progressing in Europe.

The Giallorossi faced their second consecutive away match, having lost 2-1 at Valencia, but were more hopeful of picking up points in Greece. Francesco Totti and Matteo Ferrari shook off knocks, but Roma were without Amantino Mancini, David Pizarro, Philippe Mexes and Vincenzo Montella, so Ricardo Faty received his Champions League debut. Olympiakos could count on ex-Milan star Rivaldo and former Inter man Grigorios Georgatos.

There was bad news within the opening minute, as Totti clutched the back of his thigh as he prepared to take a corner, as a flare exploded nearby and a shard struck him. The Roma captain was able to continue after treatment.

Max Tonetto was booked for a foul on Castillo and Djordjevic drilled over the bar from distance before Alexander Doni rushed off his line to close down Castillo.

Totti nearly took advantage of a Nikopolidis error, but the Giallorossi were let off on 28 minutes when Kostantinou turned in from a free kick after it had hit the bar, but it was disallowed for an Anatolakis handling offence in the build-up.

Rodrigo Taddei's cross-shot skimmed the frame of the goal and a weak Rivaldo effort was comfortably held by his fellow Brazilian. Cristian Chivu performed a crucial tackle as Castillo set up Kafes, but Doni was required soon after to parry a wonderful solo effort from Uruguayan starlet Castillo.

Olympiakos were pushing harder towards the break and hit the crossbar again, this time with Konstantinou's header from a Rivaldo free kick.

Into the second half and Roma seemed to regain their composure, Totti firing a spectacular effort over the bar.

Chivu's curling left-foot free kick was palmed out with some difficulty by Nikopolidis on the hour mark and some delightful Taddei footwork - sliding the ball under the sole of his boot - kept the move going and his shot was charged down.

Aleandro Rosi replaced Marco Cassetti in midfield when the ex-Lecce man suffered from cramp, Olympiakos substitute Maric fired off target on the counter-attack, but it was the visitors who broke the deadlock on 76 minutes.

Simone Perrotta scored the first goal Roma have ever netted on Greek soil. Totti and Rosi combined at pace and the ex-Chievo midfielder came sliding in at the near post to finish the move.

Totti thought he'd snatched a second goal in stoppages when he pounced on a defensive error, but his softly-struck angled drive was inches past the far post of an empty net.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Olympiakos: Nikopolidis; Zewlakow, Anatolakis, Julio Cesar, Georgatos; Castillo, Kafes (Maric 61), Stoltidis, P Djordjevic (Okkas 70); Rivaldo (Borja 82); M Konstantinou

Roma: Doni; Panucci, Ferrari, Chivu, Tonetto; De Rossi; Cassetti (Rosi 66), Faty (Aquilani 77), Perrotta, Taddei (Defendi 92); Totti

Roma are being linked with Lee Young Pyo again. I hope you guys can bring him to Serie A. Wonderful player. I remember how he tortured Cafu in 2005. What a bad game that was :(

Taddei: The Aurelio

Taddei names new trick
---------------------------------------------------------
Rodrigo Taddei has given a name to the new trick he used against Olympiakos – dubbing the audacious move ‘The Aurelio.’

Roma’s Brazilian midfielder stunned the Athens crowd – and his marker – on Wednesday when he leaned on his left foot and with his right stroked the ball from one side to the other before back-heeling it past the defender.

The move earned praise from the Italian media and he revealed the background to it – and the surprising name.

“The title is dedicated to one of Luciano Spalletti’s assistant managers, Aurelio Andreazzoli,” Taddei told the ‘Gazzetta dello Sport.’

“It’s a trick I use a lot in training and he dared me to replicate it in a match situation. Mission accomplished!”

Bringing a bit of Brazilian flair to the Stadio Olimpico, Taddei also points out where the move came from.

He first started attempting the trick in his teenage years playing five-a-side Futsal with Palmeiras.

It was even attempted in Serie A when he was still at Siena three seasons ago, but as he was brought down immediately afterwards, it didn’t have the same impact.

Now schoolchildren around Italy will be attempting to learn the Aurelio in the playground.

Meanwhile, Roma have been slightly reassured after their frightening experience in Athens.

Greek fans pelted the team bus with rocks and a Molotov cocktail as they attempted to leave the stadium.

However, sources close to the Olympiakos supporters have revealed the intended target was not the Giallorossi, but the home side’s vehicle.

Hope tomorrow with Chievo Verona Mexes and Montella will be comin' back, and Pizarro too, he was in Chile and returned only yesterday evening, without training it's difficult to be in the starting eleven.
Hope Totti will be ok for tomorrow, and maybe we'll see the debut of Mirko Vucinic.
Forza Roma !!!!!!

Have a nice weekend, Paolo ;)
