SG's WC2014 Draft - Sign-up/Discussion thread

What eilk you do when someone criticses your choices? Post an Alexis pic?

There'll be 12 selection rounds, 11 for the starters and 1 for the subs. This will have to start next Saturday or Sunday tops, so that can have 1 day dedicated to each selection round. In case we start Sunday, the last round (subs) will take place during the first matchday of the WC, so Saturday would be preferable.

Now we have to reach an agreement about how to organize the pecking order and its deadlines. Time zones can be a problem, so we need to find a way to make this fair for everyone...any suggestions?

Yeah this sounds good, got to act fast though if we are to get everyone's team done before first game. Short pick times, I like it.

Oooh I like the idea of the subs. That could actually be a solution to the players being eliminated (due to teams losing) from the competition!

We should extend the subs bench from 4 to 7 (arguably we could do more for the purpose I'm about to explain) so that we can replace players that are eliminated with one's off our bench. Like you said though, once we make the change we cannot go back to the old player. This way teams being eliminated won't be such a big factor in the point accumulated due to you having no players in the competition left.

I don't think we should give an extra 1 or 2 points for goals and assists because those players that scored/assisted already get a boost in their ratings from that. I like the idea of a player playing really well but with no goals and still getting an impressive rating.

Only other things left to sort out would be how to multiply/divide the points if you have fewer players in the competition (e.g. a national team with your players gets eliminated, and you have no more subs left).

The draw should be done with a randomizer. I've explained previously the ideal way to do it:

There's a way I thought of to make it almost impossible to protest.

Declare an exact time (GMT) that the draw will happen, in advance. Get a screen capturing video program. Start recording. Get some sort of randomizer site for the draw that is ready to generate the order upon a click. It's good to use a site that does it because then people can check the URL to see that it's a legit site, and it does the randomization fairly. Go to a website like www.timeanddate.com, and when the clock there hits the previously established set out time, go and click the randomizer button to create the order.

Sure there might be some intricate way to rig www.timeanddate.com to show a fake time, but as far as I'm aware I can't think of a way, and other people won't think of that, they'll be convinced.

Here's the video I made illustrating it: (turn 720p and full screen on)

I'm in too btw.

when will the 23 man teams be confirmed?

Monday is the official deadline for NTs to submit their final squads I think.

About the time zones issue, how about we use GMT as a reference? Each round will last between 0:00 and 23:59 starting Saturday, May 31st.
There won't be a specific pecking order: once midnight hits, everyone can make their pick. Next round starts after 24H, whoever misses their pick will be skipped but can still make their choice once they are back online.

Everyone OK with this?

I'm ok with the 7 subs, as long as we get to pick them all at once in the 12th round.
But substitutions must strictly happen in case of an injury or a player's NT being eliminated.

Still think there should be the bonus for goals and assists, despite the good ratings players will get out of them. It'd be that "extra" factor.

No need for a draw for the pecking order, considering there's only a 24H window in which EVERY participant must get their pick in or else they are skipped.

I also don't think extra points should be added because the Whoscored points already includes added points for goals.
