Your opinions on Asian player ....

Not sure if someone asked this before, but really what do you think about Asian players ? Are they good ? Do they have the potential ? For your information, some Holland players have Indonesian blood running through their veints. van Bronckhorst grandpa comes from the Maluku islands. The legendary Ruud Gullit also said to have Indonesian background. The name Ruud was taken from his father`s name, Rudi, a Java-Surinamese. That`s the main reason why most people here supported Holland, either on WC and Euro Championship. Our two nations are bond, both by history and sports. We even learn football from them, too bad our football gets sucker and sucker everyday.

well, yeah, I guess, Asian players have potential in Europe. I believe Japanese players are in the top form now, Junichi Inamoto (Fulham), Shinji Ono (Feyenoord). Japan have a great potential threat to any teams in the next WC.

South Koreans, no offense to any Koreans here, yet they have good skills, but not as good as Japanese players, IMO. These are some players that I know for their future skills: Jong-Gug Song (Feyenoord), Duri Cha at Bielefed (Leverkusen) and Eul-Yong Lee at Trabzonspor.

Chinese, however, cheaper players for European clubs, yet, need to adapt European fast style of playing. Sun Jihai (Manchester City), Fan ZhiYi (Dundee) are still facing difficulties to reach their high career levels.

As for Iranian, I've seen the talented Ali Karimi. He's a great quick runner & a great skills.

Of course there is potential in Asian players. Many have shown that they can play in Europe and perform to an acceptable level, and some have become stars, such as Hidetoshi Nakata.

As football becomes more of a world game, there will continue to be more influx of players from Asia. It has the largest population in the world and therefore there is no reason why it cannot supply football with talent.

At the moment Japan and South Korea are the two main nations supplying football talent. Japan, IMO, has finer individual players but South Korea has a stronger national team. There are also many other players from countries such as China, who are slowly finding their feet in Europe.

The main problem with many of them will be the language barrier. Some of them can speak some English but a lot of them can't really speak the language. And if they go and play in, say, Italy, then it is really doubtful if any of them can speak Italian. Slowly they'll adapt, but they must be given time, and time is a thing that many footballers are not being given enough of.

I think I get the point you are trying to make. However, the issue is not where you are from meaning you have potential. Everyone who is not physically disabled has potential. It's a matter of when and what you are exposed to football related. For example the players that you mentioned above would be no names if they didn't follow the path that they did (i.e. if they were in the countries you have mentioned that they have some blood from). and on the other hand there are no names in other countries that would have been EPL, La liga etc stars if they were exposed to the kind of training that is required to be a great player.

Yeah, talent is nothing without proper development. The problem is the talent development in my country is totally suck !!!! We don`t even have any scheduled league four weeks before it started and the league format changes all the time. Some clubs moving around from cities to cities, can you imagine Man U moved to Liverpool ??? It`s sad you know, back in the 50`s and 60`s we are the best Asian team, we draw 0 - 0 with the European champion Soviet Union in 1958, tough we lost 4 - 0 in the second match, but we fought bravely. Japan and South Korea used to learn football from us, now ??? It`s a very good result to win 1 - 0 against a local amateur club. You know there`s a very talented young footballer named Rigan Agachi here, he got a scholarship to study at the PSV Eindhoven football scholl, but his family can`t afford the cost to live in Holland, since they`re very poor. Did our football association do anything about it ? NO !!!!! They don`t even care, because most of them are politicians not sportsmen.

Don't forget Japanese midfielder Hiroyama who signed with Sporting Braga in Portugal :D

Do you know there's a whole team of Jap. reporters following this guy like 24/7?

Imagine how many reporters would take if Brazil did that with every single player that goes abroad...

Takayuki Suzuki, the Japanese internation forward...
He was expensively bought from the Kashima Antlers but he ain't worth notting.
Yes, he was one of the eleven base players on the World Cup though, but in Genk he's only the fifth striker (after Sonck, Dagano, Vanderbergh and Chatelle)

I play for the varsity team in my school and theres about 5-6 asian players playing and the best feature they all got is their SPEED. i mean these guys are really fast, they dont have such skill, ball control, and dribling ability as us europeans, but they got speed. if these guys were a bit stronger they would do much better. i watched most games in WC02 and asian teams did real good and i think its also because they teams have speed too.

i agree with you... azns are fast. another thing about azn players... we're too short... heading the ball against europeans is a problem lol cuz they're all at least a foot taller...

thats true, but shorter players usually are faster than those taller ones, and not just asian... i mean u got roberto carlos, oliver neuville, robert pires and many more... but asians are naturally fast. theres one asian that i REALLY like, yao mind :D .

Seoul(sp?) of Anderlecht is good, Nakata of Parma is probably the best Asian player and Sum Yung Chik of Empoli looks very promising.

asian players will be another driving force of the european football, after the african players about 15 years ago.

if you are talking about fast, well! as an asian, we are fast, but i don't think we can compare with african players, they got stamina as well!

yes, you see every korean players running for the whole game in WC, but that's it! only the Korean and Japanese are that strong in asia! Chinese, Thailand, Indonesia.......u name it, are not that strong. but we got skills, believe me, many of us are talented, i mean naturally talented. we can't do well like the european because in asia, the football system is not well! again, only korea and japan have proper youth system........but hopefully, other like china can develop as a strong football country in a short time!

for the current european based asian players, i think shinji ono and seol are making the biggest impact!
particularly ono, he is not overrated! instead, i think he is underrated! he's playing in the left of midfield in feyenoord, but his best position is definitely the central midfield.

Well, some european coach said that they love Japanese player for their work ethic. Ever seen Nakata looking not serious when playing ? He also look serious whenever he scores. They obey the command at all time and rarely tries to be fancy.
