Yeah I have read the bible twice all the way thru, first at the age of 8, then 12. Raised a Catholic you see. But reading the bible had the opposite of the intended effect, cos it raised more questions for me than it answered, and the brothers didn't like me asking about the contradictions in christianity too much.

I am an athiest through anf through. No metaphysical beings for me.

I read it when I was about 7, I used to read 2 pages each night before bed, and 2 in the morning.

I have a book I carry about a lot. "New testament and psalms". I'm not religeous, I don't believe in God, yet I pray. I don't see the point in dumping problems on friends, normally when people come to me with their problems I tell them to **** off. Yet I like giving advice. Contradicting myself like that, I think I would make a pretty fine politician. (H)

While reading the book, i often find myself thinking, "what the hell!". The characters Alice meets throughout the story just get more messed up as you read on, as they try to play with Alice's mind, and never answering her questions. At one point, a caterpillar smokes from a hookah. I just get the feeling Lewis Carroll (author) was a hardcore cocaine addicict.

Although its not the most brilliant thing i ever read, its pretty interesting.

who wrote it? u noe, i always thought even the disney version was too weird...alice's adventures were a result of her illusion, after one smoke too many..haha...mebe the one ure reading now was the original version

btw,u shoud read the little prince..now thats brilliant (read first, dun judge a book by its cover) ;)

Madness and Civilisation was basically his PhD thesis, and noone would publish it except for this small obsure ma & pa small business. It ended up being a best seller in France and made them quite a bit of money. Discipline and Punish is another Foucault book that is worth a read, about how regimes and rules that originated in the architecture and social order of the prison have escaped to permeate our everyday life.

The man is a genius in my opinion.

as with most geniuses...he has that crucial x factor, his thinking sure was beyond that of his contemporaries...hmm...i thought i detected some trace elements of hamlet in that book...
i realise that pple's perception of him as evil still rings true in some quarters...seems time hasnt really changed in that aspect

i'll hunt down disc&punish for a read soon..thx for the tip

To get a new slant on religion (mainly Christian, but others also) try reading Philip Pullmans "His Dark Materials" Trilogy (Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass)

These books have been removed from many a school library because they were felt to be anti-religious, but are the exact opposite, just different like the Narnia Chronicles.

Definitely among my all-time very favorites. I first read them when I was very young, and I have been rereading them ever since. EXCELLENT!

Currently I'm rereading The Lymond Chronicles, by Dorothy Dunnett. This is really outstanding historical fiction!

Read the entire Bible twice.

I haven't read much. I don't go to church. Hmmm.... Oh, wait, I've read a bit of Job, and a bit of Revelation. (They both give reference to 'Satan'). Revelation, Chapter 17 "The Great Prostitute"......:p

Anything Considered by Peter Mayle. Before that... uhh... a couple of David Gemmell novels... The Hobbit... Timeline... and yeah... that's about it.
