I want to read that and some other classics (some again);ie. Animal Farm, Catcher in the Rye

Animal farm is short, it takes only an afternoon which is nice about it, and Catcher in the Rye is just one cool book. Holden Caulfield :rockman:

Catcher in the Rye is the best book I have ever read. I cant say that i would of gotten the full effect without a good teacher. You really need a lot of stuff explained to get all the figurative meaning in that book. JD Salinger is a genius.

"A perfect day for Banana Fish" by JD salinger is a messed up story, but its really good.

Yah, I've read both of those, don't worry;) .

Flyer is right, you probably need a good teacher, or to do some research to truly appreciate these books. That's why you read them in school:confused:, and not useless escapes.

I read it as an out of class option and I thought I got it. My read was that Holden needed to preserve innocence of others for some reason or other, he feels that innocence is the best thing in the world.

I just finished reading Robert Putnam's Making Democracy Work, what a snooze fest, worst book ever! I read it cuz i had to for my political sciences class.

I'm currently reading Hulk Hogan's autobiography. Its pretty good so far. (Why u might ask? cuz i grew up watching wrestling and though i do not watch it now he's a person i still follow.)

You all suck!:crazyboy:

well after looking at list i think what you got was a list of books you got out off you Special-Ed Schools library so heres a test:

Question 1: Name for me atleast 6 characters of Othello.
Q2: what other name does it go by?
Q3: What is the opening line?
Q4: Did you learn your english from Shakespeare?

Bill O'Reallys (pun intended) Book:
Q1: Whats his opinion on Class?
Q2: Whats his opinion on Martha Stewart?
Q3: What network does he work on?

Nicolo (not Niccolo) Machiavelli's The Prince
Q1: Machiavelli opens The Prince describing the two principal types of governments: monarchies and republics. His focus in The Prince is on what?
Q2:most controversial aspects of Machiavelli's analysis emerge in which part of the book?
Q3: he argues, it is better to be feared than to be what?

I await your answers oh intelligent one.

Unfortunately for our friend Mr. Hitman, these questions don't seem to be ones that will be answered at sparknotes. Oh, and Hitman, I know you probably learned about the Prince in your freshman world history class as many of us, including me, did, and you thought it would be interesting, but you might be a little over your head. The language will be confusing enough for a young man such as yourself, but the idea I'm afraid may be lost on you. I'm not saying you're too young, because I think there are a few people here your age that could comprehend it, but yeah, you're probably too young to get it. I tried to read Marx's Communist Manifesto when I was your age and it ended with me just being frustrated and putting down the book a few chapters in because it's too complicated. The Prince is probably a lot more so.

Just finished Gatsby, great book, but I like Catcher in the Rye more for a leisurely read because Gatsby just isn't as exciting, but if you appreciate litarary style, themes, and motifs then it's a good read.

Just picked up Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen because I'm told it's a great work of fiction. I love old books because it's great to look into the lives of people from a different era.

Actually, I am reading a book "How to write Science Fiction and Fantasy." I just find it interesting to learn how to publish, set up plot, etc. At the moment I'm writing a mini-story, well, I was...haven't gotten to it since Monday. :(

Some of the recent ones I've read are all writing skills and tips books:

Stephen King - On Writing
Skip Press - Guide to Writing Screenplays (Talk to the author via e-mail and message board)

I need some good books now. The Lord of the Rings took over most of my reading time the past three months...now I'm done with them.

Think I came across wrong in my message. Was more or less saying that these are great books because there's so much to them.
Oh, and the needing a teacher/research was referring more to Animal Farm and...can't remember waht else.

Anyhoo... good books all around. I really gotta read Catcher again, pretty sure Holden and I have way too much in common not too.

Yeah, that's true, the relating of animals to real life people and events it tough for a lot of people, it's where I first learned about Trotskey.

Yeah I felt that I was eerily similar to Mr. Holden as well.

I enjoyed the satirical part to it, but I think having feminism throughout the whole book really made me not enjoy it as much.
