Why Portuguese members from SG make fun of J.Pereira? he's being good in the tournament and he was also good against Athletic...

That bull**** of Ronaldo underperforming at big stage is another stupid cliché. He had scored in Euros, World cups, Clásicos, CL semifinals, CL final, Cup final...

LOVED the regular cuts to Eusebio and Figo chilling together in the stands (H)

Anyway, well done to Portugal for securing the win and Czech for keeping the scoreline respectable. Sets us up for a potential Portugal vs Spain semi final, which is something to look forward to.

The semi finals should be great actually - Portugal vs Spain and Germany vs England - the two masters of flair followed by the two masters of strength and organization.

This Portugal team is a real deal, the match against Spain-France will be very good.

Ronaldo should prove nothing to everyone. He played well in world's top two leagues, and at International level, he's very good. Shame he's not playing for United anymore :(.

If Portugal win this tournament does that mean Ronaldo overtakes Messi as the best player in the world?

They're actually not, most of the players other than Ronaldo have underperformed and there are a fair few very weak players in the squad..... really Ronaldo is carrying them, which makes his performances even more remarkable.....

Glad to see Portugal win. I like for players to prove idiots wrong, that's why I'm cheering for the Miami Heat too.

At least in terms of Ballon D'or yes ...

Just remember 2006, Ronaldinho won La Liga and Champions League for Barca, but Cannavaro won Ballon Dor because of World Cup glory.

Ronaldo-Messi performed so close this year, but I guess, international glory will give Ronaldo an edge.

I actually didnt really mean in terms of ballon d'or but more the "unofficial" general perception - before this tournament almost every football fan in the world would say Messi was undoubtedly the best player in the world and Ronaldo undoubtedly the second best, but that the gap between the two has been getting narrower and narrower in the season just gone by........ if Ronaldo carries Portugal to the trophy will fans start talking of him as the worlds best?

Even without winning the EURO, Ronaldo SHOULD get the ballon d'or this year. **** Messi.

I think we have a solid team, who's underperfoming?

Pepe's being a monster on the defence in every game since the beginning of the Euro. Moutinho and Meireles are holding that midfield like bosses. Coentrao runs the whole game coming back and forward. And even Arnau enjoys João Pereira. The only lack we have is clearly the striker, so yeah... I dont agree we are a "great deal" in this tournament but we're completely proving that we got quality besides Ronaldo.

Here in Portugal most of the people puts our team moral down (dunno why, maybe cause of the actual state of the country). And Queiroz messed our NT self esteem pretty much. Everyone was saying that after the golden generation (Figo, Rui Costa, Pauleta, João Pinto, Fernando Couto, etc) we would be pretty bad but we're still clearly one of the best NT of the Euro zone and Paulo Bento is doing a great job protecting our team moral and put them play good. I dont even remember Ronaldo celebrating a goal with the NT after Scolari left, now i see him do that and perfoming better than ever in the NT.

Postiga and Veloso have been very poor, Contreao and Pereira have only barely got away with basically playing as wingers and neglecting their defensive duties so far, Meireles has looked average at best, Nani has missed a LOT of chances, Rui Patricio looks nervy and is a complete flapper........

I'm not saying you have been terrible, but I think without the Ronaldo mask you would be very very average.

And between the Messi - Ronaldo battle, i still think Ronaldo is more complete than Messi. Yeah of course, Messi's an alien, but i really appreciate what Ronaldo did to get this far and he deserves it. Winning La Liga and doing good in Euro i think its a deal that Ronaldo will get the trophy.

PS: Yes, to me a player is more than doing tricks with the ball, not taking merit from Messi since hes a beast.

They are very close, and the gap between them and other players is huge. Messi played impressive for Argentina lately as well, he scored couple of hat tricks.

Winning the competition makes Ronaldo footballer of the year but if you talk about who is a better player, I say Messi.

Footballer of the year (Ballon D'or) and best player in a word are completely different concepts.

I probably agree, but I also think you are right, over the past year or two it has gone from being Messi and the mortals to Messi, Ronaldo and the mortals.

Well Postiga i agree like i said in my last post. Meireles and Veloso is really ingrateful cause they're playing in a way that they dont stand out as much but they do their job. Veloso is very good at passing the ball to start the attacking process and i cant really imagine our midfield without Meireles hes been like a balance in there, he doesnt stand out but hes there to **** on the others team offensive process. I think Nani's being ok. Rui Patricio, yeah... I prefer Beto whos on the bench, when someone passes the ball to him, i start feeling a bit nervous.

I'm impressed by Portugal discipline in midfield and defense. I think Veloso-Meirales-Moutinho do well in midfield in terms of battles and possession, they make lots of space and chances for forwards.

Yeah this ^

The problem is that the other teams knows that they cant create chances to our striker cause we dont have none (good enough to take those chances).
