He is proving his worth at International competition as well.
If Portugal win this tournament does that mean Ronaldo overtakes Messi as the best player in the world?Arnau;3258784 said:That bull**** of Ronaldo underperforming at big stage is another stupid cliché. He had scored in Euros, World cups, Clásicos, CL semifinals, CL final, Cup final...
They're actually not, most of the players other than Ronaldo have underperformed and there are a fair few very weak players in the squad..... really Ronaldo is carrying them, which makes his performances even more remarkable.....kp40;3258788 said:This Portugal team is a real deal,.

I actually didnt really mean in terms of ballon d'or but more the "unofficial" general perception - before this tournament almost every football fan in the world would say Messi was undoubtedly the best player in the world and Ronaldo undoubtedly the second best, but that the gap between the two has been getting narrower and narrower in the season just gone by........ if Ronaldo carries Portugal to the trophy will fans start talking of him as the worlds best?kp40;3258795 said:At least in terms of Ballon D'or yes ...
Just remember 2006, Ronaldinho won La Liga and Champions League for Barca, but Cannavaro won Ballon Dor because of World Cup glory.
Ronaldo-Messi performed so close this year, but I guess, international glory will give Ronaldo an edge.

Postiga and Veloso have been very poor, Contreao and Pereira have only barely got away with basically playing as wingers and neglecting their defensive duties so far, Meireles has looked average at best, Nani has missed a LOT of chances, Rui Patricio looks nervy and is a complete flapper........Coruja;3258806 said:I think we have a solid team, who's underperfoming?

I probably agree, but I also think you are right, over the past year or two it has gone from being Messi and the mortals to Messi, Ronaldo and the mortals.kp40;3258817 said:They are very close, and the gap between them and other players is huge. Messi played impressive for Argentina lately as well, he scored couple of hat tricks.
Winning the competition makes Ronaldo footballer of the year but if you talk about who is a better player, I say Messi.

I'm not saying you have been terrible, but I think without the Ronaldo mask you would be very very average.
