The England National team thread

Eng4WorldCup

Starting XI
someone told me that englands home kit of 66 was the red shirt (which was worn at world cup final)... is this true? i find it hard to believe, considering west germany played in white therefore england wore their away kit, but was the red really home?

The red wasn't the home kit. It was the away. The germans won the coin toss to wear their white home shirt, while England had to wear red.

good news will get more options now with Rooney available soon...

p.s. watched France-China first half... i think Cisse is out for world cup :( it looks like he broke his leg again...(same leg he broke with Liverpool) really sad for him :(

I'm not too concerned about the group games. To be honest I'm not over worried about any games after that either. Of course anything can happen over the next month, but it can happen to other teams too and not just us.

The word is, that Wayne will probably give 20 minutes in the Sweden game. That seems at the moment, the earliest time that he is likely to play. He'll need the time before that to get his fitness up to a decent level anyway, I should think.

If there had been the slightest doubt about his foot, Man U would never have let him board that plane. I would have accepted that decision too. A crocked Rooney is no good to England and to send him into the World Cup without being dead sure that he will be ok, is something that Ferguson, or anyone in their right mind just would not do.

EDIT......wow thats bad for Cisse. How bloody unlucky can one guy be?

I'm sure Cisse's ambulance wont need protection from opposition fans :chew:

Anyway, we all remember what happened the last time Wayne Rooney came back from a broken foot.

YES YES YES - He's going to Germany :lui:

Now I can updated my Sig.

The groupgames won't be easy no matter what everyone says - but I BELIEVE so hopefully England advance and Rooney can get his healing/rehabilitation program and fitness levels up so he'll be able o play some minutes in the 1st knockoutstage and hopefully more later on :)

Oh according to the Liverpool thread, that never really happened Stotty. It says in there that it was all made up.......... I think it was their self appointed leader that posted the denial.

Hmmm... this decision is a make or breaker.

An unfit rooney could be so useless it's untrue.

Yer I think he has to get some game time in the group stages , he isn't the most consistent player at the best of times , so I wouldn't like to see him playing a crucial match not fully fit.

Rooney always performs in big games though. All his best games are in the ones that matter the most.

Help?

The last time Rooney played injuried, he stunned the 67,000 people with a goal of the season against Newcastle. I think England could really use him, no matter if he is 100% fit or not.

We apologize for keeping the yellow too long

I think that England will be fine, in the group stages, without Rooney. The midfield can more than carry the load. The boy should be given time to get match fit.

Well that's an opinion, not a fact....

Watch the Mexico vs. USA game from 2002 and you'll be shocked that Cobi Jones didn't have his leg snapped in half like Cisse from one of the numerous dirty challenges from the Mexicans.

Good first half for England, if they have keep their shots and crosses down a little bit they should turn this game into a laugher. Valdez looks like the only dangerous Paraguyan out there.
