How's the Midori? I have Melon Liqueur but from what I'm told only the Japs have really perfected the drink.

And the Aboslut Vanilla? I have Citron and it's got more flavour than I expected, which is why I'd like to have the Absolut collection.

Midori is about the only melon liqueur we get here. It's good, but I don't drink it much, girlfriend uses it for Japanese Slippers mainly.

Absolut Vanilla is great. Bit of a girl's drink, but with cranberry juice is awesome. We also have Smirnoff Vanilla, which is nice too, but not as smooth.

Absolut Ruby Red is also really good, great with tonic or lemonade.

Also have Absolut Watkins, which is as special coffee flavoured one.

How do you drink the flavoured vodkas? Do you just drink them cold on ice, or do you make cocktails out of them? I dont think I have ever bought a flavoured vodka....

Either way. They're extremely trendy now, and I know a lot of people will infuse their own vodkas too.

Yeah, that picture of mine didn't include 4 bottles of infused vodka we've (read: my girlfriend) made.

One with berries. One with orange peel, vanilla and cinnamon. One with raspberry lollies. And one that I can't remember.

I agree with you, but it's still booze. Usually the flavored stuff is 70 proof instead of 80, but it's not like 23 like Malibu or something like that.

Vodka infusion is also a super cheap christmas/birthday present. Buy a crappy vodka, run it through a brita filter, infuse it with something, and if you're really devious, put it in a better bottle. "I infused this bottle of Grey Goose in your favorite flavor!" Actual cost ~$8.

Depends what they are. You can drink them straight on ice, or some make really good mixers. The citron/lemon and ruby red are quite good with soda, with lemonade or with tonic.

The coffee one, is actually really good with cola (and I hate most alcohols with cola).

The Vanilla one is good with coke, awesome (but girly) with Cranberry, and good in cocktails.

Loads of them are great to replace normal vodkas in some cocktails, to add a bit of a twist.

My dad makes his own spirits, so that's cheaper than any cheap vodka infusion.

Actually vanilla vodka with coke is a genius idea - considering vanilla coke was my favourite soft drink of all time until they took it off the market....

Haha that is quite clever! And yeah, dont think I wouldnt drink it, if a bottle fell into my hands I would happily guzzle it, but I dont think it's something I would ever go out and buy, or have in my liquor collection. Except now, thanks to Alex, the vanilla one, to make boozy vanilla cokes.

I had a orange vodka and grand marnier during my binge last week because the bartender thought it would work better than regular vodka. Just tasted super orangey to me, not as good as a good vodka. Rehorst vodka (made right here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin!!) was probably my favorite. Beat the traditional medium/upper shelf stuff.

Yeah if you're gonna put a flavoured liqueur in it I'd say the last thing you'd want is a flavoured vodka to start with.

One flavoured, or at least slightly flavoured, vodka I do really like is that one that comes with the grass in it? What's that called again?

Not off the market here. It's the only flavoured coke that stayed on the market. After trying Cherry Coke, Orange Coke, Lemon Coke, only Vanilla Coke is left in Australia (though Cherry Coke, along with Dr Pepper, and other 'artificial cherry/almond' flavoured drinks are usually available at loads of places as imports from the US).

Orange Vodka with Grand Marnier sounds silly to me. A really nice Orange liqueur, with a crappy orange vodka?

You'd be much better off just to drink straight Grand Marnier I think. Of if you're trying to stretch it, just a bit of Vodka, as you were doing. As Grand Marnier is 40% already, I'd rather just drink it straight though.

I think an orange vodka could go well with Drambuie though. Orange + Honey = good ?

I don't drink much Grand Marnier (actually, I'm not sure I've got a bottle), because when I drink Orange liqueurs, it's generall Cointreau in a White Lady.

(I might buy myself some Grand Marnier actually, and see how it goes in some drinks instead of Cointreau)

Blue Curacao!

How would you infuse the vodka btw? It actually sounds like a nice idea for a gift. [/jewish-but-serious]

You just put stuff in it too infuse. Lollies/candy works well. Grab a load of one colour skittle, crush them a little (not completely) and leave them to soak for a month

You don't even need to crush, but it speeds it up. Oh and with skittles, you won't need to wait a month. A few days should be heaps.

And just strain through a coffee filter to get rid of residue.
