Well here's my review after a whole season of master league and a normal league season on hardest difficulty:
After playing the first 3 matches, I didn't notice any major differences between PES5 and PES6 and it definately felt like a patched version of PES5 so I thought I should play 5-10 more matches before drawing any conclusions. However, it still felt like a patched, "frustrating" version of PES5 that wasn't even patched correctly. What on earth are Konami thinking? The game still rules in terms of gameplay, but we want evolution, something really worth noting. Somehow I fail to see how many of you consider that gameplay improvement major. I have a feeling that this version of PES will even receive more negative feedback than the previous one.
Here are my gameplay annoyances:
- I don't feel like I am in full control of my players. It's like you have 80% control while a CPU "script" or whatever does the rest in a way you didn't intend to.
- More CPU cheating. It's like they Konami has their own database of cheating scripts that can be executed when necessary.
- The crappy player positioning somehow give a fake impression that passing is more realistic.
- Don't let me get started on shooting.
- The annoying fatigue problem as if all players smoke.
- I don't know if many of you noticed this, but this "bug" where a fast striker makes a very straightforward run between defences is back.
- Wingers are lazy with their runs. But this has been a problem since hell knows.
- Players that make a difference always are the first to get injured.
Those points give you the impression that PES6 is much more difficult but it's not. When the CPU cheats and every single ball magically bounces to a CPU player's foot, players are crappy in their positioning, you don't get to fully control your players, you eventually feel it's more difficult. Oh and save those "go and practice more" comments for some other occasion.
Whenever I feel like playing it, the frustration wins over the enjoyment after 3-4 matches as opposed to those old days where you could go on for 10-15 matches in a row only to notice that it's 4 AM in the morning.
I'm disappointed with PES6. Is that what Konami calls a step forward? I am thankful that it didn't cost me much to get this game except for the bandwidth and time of downloading it. Have a nice day and let the flaming begin.
