My quip with it was that he didn't lunge in at ALL. He slid in, clean as a whistle and won the ball. Nani himself had NO complaints about it, and only after it was called for a foul did the United players (esp. Rooney) start bickering for a red. At least we didn't keel over and die in the 2nd half like our good old red neighbours though.

Looks like United have got to win it the hard way after being drawn with Liverpool in the 4th round of the FA Cup. Should be an absolute cracker at Anfield.

2 footed tackle is always a red, contact or no, on the ground or in the air. straight RED. komany only has himself to blame cuz there was no need for him to go into the challenge like that.

Are you serious :sKIp_E: ?
How can you think of a red when Nani wasn't touched and Kompany took the ball?

Studs up with both feet and both in the air. Straight red, how can any of your argue this?

Oh right, it should only be a red when somebody breaks their ******* leg. Get serious.

Exactly, if it's dangerous its dangerous.

Driving drunk over the speed limit with no hands on the wheel is still illegal whether or not you hit someone...

Driving drunk with your hands tied behind your back and your mouth gagged with scotchtape is still illegal even if you don't get into an accident. Same as a bad tackle - okay I see your point.

He got the ball, DIDN'T TOUCHED NANI. He didn't went to break Nani's leg, he went after the ball, he got it.
Dangerous tackle, yellow for advertisment. You can't send somebody off just because it MIGHT HAVE BEEN a worse tackle.

It's hard to judge how dangerous something is if it is executed flawlessly and results in no contact. When that happens it seems like maybe the lunge wasn't dangerous at all. If he missed, but swiped his feet at Nani as he slid by instead of winning the ball, maybe you'd have a case.

Actually, that's exactly what you do. IF it could have been a dangerous tackle in the way the player went in for it, then that's a red. Dangerous tackle is a dangerous tackle regardless of the outcome.

Question if there was an intent, say that Kompany got the ball, ask if there was a lunge, ask if it would have been dangerous if Nani wouldn't have jumped, if it should have been yellow or no card at all...but please do not say that you actually think that in football you need to have a physical contact and an injury for getting booked.

Jesus ****, you don't even have to tackle dangerously to get booked, there's a thing called dangerous play rule, which is purely theoretical in the sense that it's only a fault if you DON'T touch another player.

The funny thing is that I'm 100 percent sure man utd and city fans' opinions would do a complete 180 degree turn if the situation was reversed.

Mate,
I'm not the only one which thinks that is an yellow and not a red.
My favorite team is Dinamo Bucharest, I'm Romanian and from England my "favorite" if you call it that way is Chelsea. I am not a City fan.
90% of the public thinks that is an yellow but not a red.
Are all of this people wrong?
This ain't a red card in my opinion. Kompany intention was to get the ball. Why it is a red, because Nani might have got injured? There are 5-6 tackles every game which might have turned bad if they weren't executed properly. But you don't see 5-6 red cards in every game. This is my point, why this was seen a red and all the other dangerous tackles are seen as an yellow.

Without having a degree in sociology, I won't even try to argue with the 90% you called for. It was a controversial red and I'm a biased United fan who was pissed when Keane got sent off for breaking the leg of that ****ty ****.

I'm not saying everyone has to agree with the red, I'm asking you to you more legitimate arguments than "oh, he never touched him".

Isn't "he never touched him" a legitimate argument in this sense?
I mentioned this a few days ago, there is no clear ruling here from the FA or other associations. That puts the ref in a position where he has to make a decision.
