Requiem for a Dream is really fantastic. I remember that I missed it when it came out and then watched it in a film festival and was just blown away as I didnt know anything about it.

Went to see Vantage Point last night. pretty forgettable. after watching the same story (but from a different point of view) for a third time it got boring. and the bad guys' plan was so good (though too well calculated, impossible) that I was rooting for them to win but fvcking Dennis Quaid and the Americans always have to win, right? :(

I've had the pleasure of seeing quite a bit of Henry Fonda and John Ford's works over the past month or so and I was just completely awe inspired by Fonda's restrained brilliance. I already had a high opinion of the both of em, I mean Ford is arguably the greatest, but I just took them for granted, I guess.

Anyway, after having watched the flicks I've listed below, I think that I have now found a new favorite director/actor combo.

I've seen some of em already more than once, but I dont ever recall being as engrossed and captivated by them as I was this time around, man.

young mr Lincoln
grapes of wrath
boston strangler
my darling clementine
fort apache
drums along the mohawk

I almost made a stupid bet with a friend of mine that he was still alive....I swear to God I was truly convinced that he was still around somewhere in a decrepit state....I always thought that he, Kirk Douglas and Charlton Heston were contemporaries....around the same age and the such....

shame on me I know, but I just watched Children of Men for the first time last night (in an awesomely huge HDTV in a Blue-ray disc) and wow, what an excellent movie. it would've definetly been in my top 10 back in 06 if I had seen it when it was released (Y)(Y)(Y)

A brilliant film....too bad I haven't watched it in almost 8yrs, man.

btw, did it get any noteworthy Oscar nods? Everyone who participated in this flick was award deserving....including Keith David for his small cameo.

The double ended dildo scene will be indelibly etched in my memory.

Fargo - Great film. Really weird and unorthodox, and left a lot of questions. But overall I liked it a lot. One thing, though... if people in the midwest really have those type of accents, I never wanna go up there.

Hmm, i saw it the other day and i must admit i quite liked it. I thought it was at times very repetitive, and i thought Quaid's backstory was really weak. However, i really think at times it was very good, quite rollercoaster and (however much it pains me to say), i didn't see the twist coming :(

badass trailer.....one of the most underrated flicks in recent history, I think. I saw it when it first came out and was really blown away by it so I recently copped the DVD....well worth the purchase/download, folks.

true. but with Ed Norton you cant do wrong, really.

Top 5 Norton Performances:
1- Primal Fear (I think Im going to watch it now!)
2- Fight Club
3- American History X
4- 25th Hour
5- Rounders

His only mistake ever you vould say was Death to Smoochy but with that great cast I actually liked it (Y)

oh yeah, I didnt see the twist coming either. it was pretty great. and the guy is so likeable and the plan was so great that I wanted it to work! also because Quaid's backstory was kind of weak so I didnt care much for him.

Saw Kevin Spacey on stage last night for the fourth time in David Mamet's Speed The Plow. Also starred Jeff Goldblum. My god was it magnificent.

Apparently they're doing a remake of The Wolf Man (one of my favorite monster movies) and Bencio Del Toro, who's a massive monster characters/movies of the past geek and collector is signed on to play the lead role......and no ******* CGI either, man.

With his knowledge and great reverence for the genre, I'm expecting something spectacular, man....none of this blatant and open defiance of every monster movie canon and convention, man....my Cock is salivating over the potential of this flick, man.....PLEASE, DEAR LORD.....DON'T PG it up!!

American Psycho - Umm... I'm still trying to decide whether I liked it or not. All I can say now is that it has a good plot twist at the end. And the main character is an annoying smug bastard, I was hoping he'd die.

Trippy ass movie with some really solid acting. I didn't get fully engulfed into the story but I went into it thinking it would be more of a science fiction story when in fact it's more of a love story. That threw me off a bit, I still enjoyed it however.

that's ******* cool, man. Two of my favorite actors interpreting the work of probably the best writer in the last two decades.....I wish they'd bring it over here.

quick question.....is Mamet himself overseeing this new production?

finally got to catch two flicks that I've been meaning to see for some time now this past week. The first one, Breach, is about Robert Hanssen. He's widely considered to be the most treacherous agent in the intelligence community. The cost of the information that he leaked out is estimated to be in the hundreds of millions and he was directly linked with compromising the identities of more than 50 undercover agents, leading to the demise of three of 'em.

Anyway. It was a very solid movie. The pace, dialogue and cast selections were all excellent. Christopher Cooper as Hanssen put in what I consider to be a criminally overlooked performance in '07 that was more than award deserving. Ryan Phillippe, who in my opinion, has rounded himself out into a talented and capable actor with savvy selections in the people/scripts he chooses to associate himself with, was also praise worthy. Laura Linney, as usual, was more than competent in her role as a supporting actor aswell, man. I seem to take her for granted far too often, but she's a phenomenal broad.....great actress.

The second one was a little flick called This is England. I recall hearing about it quite a while ago. Actually, it might've even been as far back as around the time of the Toronto International Film fest. I was really intrigued by it from reading a short synopsis of it, but not enough to follow through on that piqued interest, I suppose. Anyway, I was slightly familiar with the works of Shane Meadows through his shamefully underrated flick A Room for Romeo Brass, but I'd seen that movie so long ago that I'd pretty much forgotten about 'em.

What can I say about the movie other than that it was surprisingly flawless and brilliant in every facet. It was effortlessly gloomy and chilly from the first scene on. The leading actor, who's just this preteenish kid is immensely gifted. The kid just has it in my opinion, man. And the supporting cast, but especially the dude who played Combo was remarkably outstanding as the highly frightening and complex Skinhead.

Going into it, I was expecting something a la American History X or Romper Stomper, but this movie might've been more mesmerizing and emotionally gripping than those two flicks. Again, I cannot stress to you guys enough how sublime and tremendously advanced the kid's acting in this flick was, man.

I highly recommend 'em both.

btw, I'm just looking over Shane Meadow's filmography, and this dude has some impressively rated films to his name, man. I mean, I realize that it's not wise to jump to conclusions about someone's material by how the IMDBers have chosen to vote on it, but if the rest of his **** is anywhere as good as This is England or A Room for Romeo Brass, then this dude is shamefully overlooked as one of the best young writer/director combos out there today, man.
