TEN-MAN INTER STAGE FIGHTBACK AT TARDINI
Sunday, 06 February 2005 16:59:27
PARMA - Goals from Ivan Cordoba and Christian Vieri saw Inter hold Parma to a 2-2 draw in a dramatic Serie A Week 23 encounter at the Tardini, with the Nerazzurri in ten men for 55 minutes after Marco Materazzi was dismissed.
After twice hitting the woodwork, the Gialloblu took the lead on 36 minutes in an Inter-dominated first half. Mark Bresciano hit the crossbar on 12 minutes then Simplicio hit the post before converting from the spot after Materazzi was sent off for handling the ball in the box. Ex-Nerazzurri keeper Sebastian Frey denied Davids and Stankovic as both midfielders had good chances to equalise on the stroke of half time.
Gilardino doubled for Parma fifteen minutes into the second half with a spectacular effort from inside the Nerazzurri box, and it looked like Inter's long unbeaten run was in serious doubt. But like they have done so often this season, Mancini's men kept their composure and Cordoba pulled one back on 76 minutes, rising above the Parma defence to head home a Mihajlovic inswinger. Christian Vieri equalised from the penalty spot with his 100th Serie A goal for Inter on 82 minutes after Bonera fouled Cordoba in the box, and had an excellent chance for a winner but Adriano's ball across the six-yard box went through his legs at the far post.
The draw stretches Inter's unbeaten run to 36 matches, but the Nerazzurri slip to fourth in the table as Udinese beat Brescia 1-0 at the Rigamonti.
