FF10DUMP (v1.03.04 - structured DB/career file dump for FIFA 10

As noted more than once elsewhere, this is not the latest version (although that won't affect your situation at all since the logic you are using dates back to FIFA 07). If you check the email that I sent you originally you will find two forwarded messages, the second with details of the update.

The two outputs are pretty much exactly what I'd expected to see, so it seems that everything is working as desired and my guess was spot on.

is it possible to undo this fix

FF10DUMP takes a backup copy of the saved game file before updating it, and you can always revert to that, but there is no point because it is irreparably damaged and will never work with the game (which is why my fix exists).

i want to keep the 30 player limitation. otherwise i tend to go overboard buying and scouting players

The limitation in FIFA 10 is 45 players and that is hard-coded into the game (and no, the INI file parameter does not affect the shape of the saved game file). I need to change the text in the EAFFAnalyser dialog because the limit was 30 for previous versions.

The problems you encountered are generally caused by loaning out players. If you don't do that then the game stops you from signing more than 45 players. If you have players out on loan then that check ignores those players in counting the 45, which it should not. It is also possible to end up with problems when loaned out players return even if you've never got anywhere near the limit, so the issue is with loaning out more than anything else.

As you will discover when you read the email, it is already accessible to download over the web, but because the tool is still in a beta state (mainly because I can't find the time to update the documentation to an appropriate level) I prefer if everyone that uses it has to ask for it and let's me have an email address so that I can send out any fixes that prove necessary.

2 Minor and purely cosmetic notes:

-A sub folder in the program directory, leaving only the GUI exe and the read me files in the main folder, would make it less cluttered and look more professional.

-The analysis CSVs should really be called different... FF10ANAL_career just sounds wrong. :-p

just out of kindness... and loving the challenge I suppose =)

A mixture of the fun of decoding the game data, a desire for more information about what is going on than the game gives me, and a touch of altruism (since I don't use the GUI myself, just the console mode programs).

A sub folder in the program directory, leaving only the GUI exe and the read me files in the main folder, would make it less cluttered and look more professional

and would also guarantee me a regular diet of support requests from folk that expanded the archive into a single folder instead of maintaining the structure. If the distribution were an installer .EXE (or an .MSI) then I could impose more structure, but my reasons for not doing that are documented (see the Getting Started section of the Read Me), so I stick with a flat layout. I agree with your suggestion, but since I can't even find the time to update the usage guide properly I'm unlikely to get to the chore of creating and testing an installer.

You can change that value to anything you like, but I have to choose a default, and since the programs have really moved on from dumping data to analysing and fixing it instead, I went with a shortened form of analysis. Besides, some folk are very anal about their careers, so it fits

It takes a matter of a couple of minutes to add each new requestor to my Eudora address book and forward on the email and I can live with that expenditure of time since I often end up having elongated email conversations with people, which rarely have anything much to do with issues with the program. Whilst some folk can be obnoxious the vast majority are friendly and I get the chance to swap stories with people from all around the world.

but when i hit start analysis it gives an error "Error in CreateProcess for ff10dump program"

Did he send you the original package (a ZIP file with 45 files in it)?? If not then something might be missing, but as noted above everything is stored in a single flat directory. Just to be sure I've emailed you the download instructions and perhaps you could follow those and let me know if there is still a problem.

Weird. I've searched through my notes, forum posts and emails I cannot find any previous reference to that call failing (all it is doing is running FF10DUMP with a bunch of switches that reflect the options that you've selected). Unfortunately I don't output the error code in that dialog and that is something that I need to change.

That won't make any difference because EAFFAnalyser hasn't changed since the original beta release back in February. The patches have only changed the underlying FF10DUMP that does all the work, but your error message relates to invoking that program so it hasn't got as far as that.

BTW are you running under Windows 7?? I've never tested EAFFAnalyser under anything later than Windows XP, so I guess there could be issues there. One thing I notice from your screenshot is that the main dialog is not fully displayed but instead has scrollbars. That should not happen, so it looks like I need to revisit the dialog sizing code that takes account of different screen resolutions.

I think FIFA holds a grudge against most of us but I doubt that that plays into this. I sent you an email on Sunday morning (UK time) which I'm guessing from your recent message to me that you didn't receive. I have tried again with a subtle rename of the attachment (which is a ZIP with an EXE in it) and if that doesn't get through either then please let me know (via email) and I'll upload it to my web space and send you a link instead.

Are you playing with an unmodified database?? If so then I'd love to get a copy of a manager mode data file with that issue extant. If you have modified your database then I'd still be interested but if you have changed the ID of either the ECC or EFA leagues, so that you can play them in the first season, then what you are seeing is only to be expected and there is little point in my reviewing your database.
