This Bernard got linked to Arsenal. How is he?

Small right footed winger/ second striker, (can play in both sides) strong 1-on-1, fast, dinamic, very good crosser... great player, he doesnt hide in big games.

English teams aren't allowed to purchase players that aren't 100% owned by the selling club, so Bernard couldn't even be a real possibility for Arsenal.

Bought last season's home shirt on sale. :lui:

Could have gotten one with 'James' on it but decided to pass would have gotten it in a heartbeat if it was 'Lucho' or 'Moutinho'.
Awesome man, make sure you wear it proudly (H)

I can't see Quintero as midfielder in a 4-3-3, his defensive work is as intense as Messi's: 0. Maybe as "false winger" with an attacking fullback (which you have got) but he appears and demands the ball everywhere on the pitch and that would reduce Porto's aggressiveness. Maybe your coach is thinking in playing a 4-2-3-1.

EDIT:

That's exactly the role James played and Quintero is likely to follow his steps. On the right wing though.

Your formation is pretty accurate, player 5 and 4 are likely to be Josué and Lucho.
But, Mangala was interviewed after the Marseille match and mentioned something interesting: when asked about how different the new coach's tactical approach to the game were comparing to the last seasons, he said that Fonseca intends to play with a double pivot, instead of the usual anchorman.
I reckon this might happen in a few league and cup games against theoretically weaker opposition, but there's no way that against big teams we should abandon our traditional model, especially in the CL.

The squad is already in Venezuela for the mini south-american tour, we'll be playing tomorrow night against Deportivo Anzoátegui. 22:00 GMT!

It would make sense to play with a double pivot having Quintero in the squad. Fernando-Castro (?) behind Quintero, 2 wingers and Carlos*son... sounds nice.

realistically no, but it is still possible. They could do like Chelsea did with David Luiz and Benfica - have CAM buyout Bernard and reimburse the purchase along with payment for the xfer - we all know it won't happen anyways.

Yeah it won't, because I'm pretty sure he's joining us. (H)

Maybe I used the word "pivot" wrong, but I meant something like this:

----------Carlos*son
Bernard----------Quintero
-----------Lucho
-----Josué-------Defour

That is according to what Fonseca appears to be sketching for us, at least judging by what I've seen so far. It's only an alternative plan though, the main scheme will be:

--------------Carlos*son
Bernard-----------------Quintero
---------Josué-----Lucho
-------------Fernando

Defour, Castro and Herrera are the main alternatives for Josué and Lucho's spots.

4-2 win with goals from Carlos*son, Mangala and Varela (2).

We've played a terrible first half. This was the team then:

----------Ghilas
Iturbe--------------Varela
--------C. Eduardo
-----Fernando----Defour
Alex--Mangala-Maicon--Fucile
----------Fabiano

Except for Defour (had an amazing performance playing exactly the way we expect Moutinho's replacement to play) and Iturbe (exciting game down the left wing, his crossing was as venomous as it can get and made a handfull of breathtaking moves), everybody else was a big pile of turds.

In the second half though, things were a lot different especially due to the fact that we had Danilo, Lucho and Carlos*son coming on and they had a huge impact in our game.
Also, Fonseca inverted the midfield triangle, so we started playing like this:

----------Carlos*son
Iturbe--------------Varela
-------Defour-Lucho
---------Fernando
Alex--Mangala-Maicon--Danilo
----------Fabiano

Way better I must say. Fernando playing as the anchorman is a luxury we simply can't afford to dismiss, he is unique in his position and offers the players around them a sense of trust that everything is going to be fine simply because he is around.
He was the captain today and I fucking hope that means that Fili's gut is right about him staying after all.

Short cameos from Castro and Herrera in the last 10-15 minutes, both had a few good moments. Herrera's touch is undeniably classy (Y)

Match against Millonarios next Wednesday, which means that JuanFer Quintero's debut for FC Porto is right around the corner (H)

How did Carlos*son get so good and polished in such a short time? He was a physical specimen with some flashes of brilliance in the Mexican league, but now he has moves and the touch to contribute to link up play. It doesn't even seem like the same player.

Same happened with Falcao, at River he was nowhere near the player he became after spending a season with us. Maybe we have a magic potion (H)

Goals from last night:

Varela's just posted on his Facebook that he'll play his last match for Porto today; and also that he's going to England.

edit: He's also just posted a photo where he is with Nani saying "I'll see you soon, bro"; which may just mean he's going to England, but might also mean he's going to United!!

either that or he's Facebook's been hacked.

edit2: yeah, all signs are that it's fake. fuck, that would be good news.

We'll get better offers for him after WC2014 than we would now. If he has a good tournament, maybe €10M. Right now, he'd go for 7M tops.

4 awesome goals! Carlos*son's was fucking sweet.
I hope Danilo carries this form onto the official fixtures, about time he steps it up for good. He was insane tonight.
