Essien Threatens Strike

Im sure when Essien was singing his contract and starting to play for Lyon it came to him that maybe one day he would have a good season where the big clubs would be interested in him and he would want to move to a better team/league....:| I dont think that was on his mind at that time.
A player can't just get out of his contract whenever he feels like it. "club x is my favourite club and I'm impressed by their great history* - sell me or I'll strike" wtf :|

*= offers me more money

Lyon had the chance to sell him for a damn good price. Considering how overrated he is, it was a really good offer from Chelsea but they keep on rejecting and saying we want more money just because your Chlesea. Its not like after the first interest came on him from Chelsea that he went stright to his stirke method. This has been dragged on for far too long and Lyon should have sold him already. I dont see why Lyon or the fans would want to keep Essien either, if he is unhappy like he is at the current moment than he is going to start playing like sh!t, if he even plays that is.

Lyon being punks and so is Essien. Leave him on the bench for a year then sell him and see how much you can get, and see what that does to Essien's carrier. They would both lose, and they both deserve that.

Otherwise just play his lazy butt, and watch him screw everything up.

Maybe one of the youth players will give him a dirty tackle and rip his knee in half and maybe he'll learn his lesson. :D

In Holland, Feyenoord has rejected three different bids by PSV for Kalou even though Kalou has openly stated that he wants to play for PSV. PSV are now threathening to sue Feyenoord even though only Kalou can do this. He can take his employer, Feyenoord in this case, to court claiming that they're stopping him from taking a position elsewhere that is a clear improvement. (He'll obviously get a much better paycheck at PSV). Even if the court rules in favour of Kalou (which is questionable), Feyenoord can still claim "suitable compensation" from PSV for Kalou, which no doubt will be a considerable sum of money.

I wonder if Essien can sue Lyon the same way. Anyone from/familiar with France know?

It doesn't really matter how high/inflated Chelsea's bid was. If they're willing to spend that much clearly there's something special about Essien; it's not like FIFA 2005 where you can sell any of your players and find a near identical replacement for a similar, if not lower price. If there was another Essien out there for £20 million Chelsea would have bought him. Chelsea could offer Arsenal £100 million for Theirry Henry and they would be turned down; you can't replace Henry for ANY amount of money. If selling Essien doesn't fit with Lyon's plans, then they don't have to sell, even if (shocking, I know Chelsea fans) it is to Roman Abramovich.

The Jean Obi Mikel, Robinho, and now Essien sagas are deeply disturbing, and I wonder what can be done to prevent clubs like Chelsea and Madrid making players "disillusioned" with clubs they are contractually obligated to.

the way i see it is essien can go on strike all he wants to prove he wants out, good for him for standing up for himself, but............

....lyon should sue him for breach of contract. as long as he has years left on his contract he is obligated to play for lyon and they are not obligated to sell unless there is some clause in the contract that we do not know about.

so for essiens sake, lyon should just sell and get as much money out of chelsea, hes obviously made up his mind and wont play another match. and its not like its a lose lose situation for lyon, **** they are imo getting triple maybe in quadruple of what he is worth. i think at this point they are just trying to screw essien.

and by chance if essien does play for chelsea, i hope he enjoys riding the pine behind frankie and claude. classic abramovich chelsea, a player has a good season in a (eg. mutu, crespo, drogba, geremi, kezman) and completely overpay for him to end up sitting on the bench.

I understand your point modena but for Lyon to cave in at this point would simply embolden players and Chelsea and Madrid to try this kind of crap over and over again, and it's something that needs to be stamped out. In the short term they will benefit by getting more money than he's worth; in the long run if super rich clubs know this kind of "strike" bull**** works then nobody will ever get a fair transfer price again.

If lyon dont want to sell to chelsea they dont have to. Essien has a contract with lyon and he has to honour it. Chelsea could offer 100 million for essien and lyon wouldn't have to take it if they didn't want to. Would it be stupid? Yes, Would lyon have to do it? No. If Essien wants to strike, fine. Lyon should sue him then or try to recoup money that they are paying him. I hear the arguments... well if you work somewhere you can quit right? Well yeah, but i work at a retail clothing store and i can quit, but i idnd't sign a 2-4 year contract with them to work there. Essien did sign a contract and he's obligated to wait it out if he wants to leave so bad.

I dont see anything wrong with what Lyon are doing. If they are holding Chelsea to ransom let them. Obviously they want to keep Essien, and they are showing this. If they're going to lose one of their top players they will try to make as much money off the club (Chelsea) as they can.

How is that different any other transfer? The team selling the player want to make as much as they can out of the transfer. Alot of transfers these days are overpriced (eg. Crouch for 7mil). Just everyone knows about Chelsea's riches now and clubs that try to get as much money out of a transfer as they can will know that Chelsea's spending limit is unlimited (well into 9-figures anyway). So if Chelsea want the player, Lyon might aswell ask for a substantial figure.

Chelsea are just big enough idiots to keep going :bouncy:

Essien's Injury Fear

Now Essien won't play because he's worried he'll get hurt and that will scuttle the move to Chelsea. Would anybody be surprised if Mourinho and Abramovich put him up to this? Surely FIFA or UEFA must be able to bring the hammer down on this scumbucket. If he does go to Chelsea I can't wait for him to be introduced to Roy Keane.

Essien is really being a lil b1tch here... a month ago it was "My dream is to go to ManUtd, I wouldn't go to Chelsea", now that Chelsea is the only serious bidder, it becomes, "Chelsea has always been the only team I've ever wanted to play for, Lyon is being very bad on this situation"...
