Italy needs to be banned from European competition until they clean up their act. From repeated Nazi salutes by a player, to general racism on the part of the fans, to the Roma referee-assaulting incident, the the Fiorentina/Juve crowd riots, and especially the Milan flare incident last year, it's become obvious that too many Italians are incapable of conducting themselves in a civilized manner and that Serie A isn't doing enough to stop the problems. I suggest a three year ban, with a review at the end to see what changes have been made.

haha what? you clown :fool:

Oh well ,you know what. That's just too bad. There's a problem because Di Canio sticks up for his people?

I bet some of you are the type of people who have no problem with Hispanics wearing "Brown pride" on the back of their shirts but then would look weird at white people wearing "White pride" on the back of their shirts.

I stick up for Di Canio since everyone is acting so PC and can longer express their views. Every time a white person does something, it's racist.

And it's not a Nazi salute, so get it right.

If he does it as a tribute to the ancient roman people, it's right (like Raul imitating a spanish bullfighter when we win any title). If he does it as a tribute to Benito Mussolini or fascism, it isn't.

But though it was the first case, it could be misunderstood by many, so he should quit doing that.

dude he already said he was gonna keep on doing the nazi salute, so shut the **** up. At yes I would look weird at ppl wearing White Pride t-shirts because they are the majority not the minority like the Hispanics are.

First of all, let's not blame the entire Lazio club for this with comments like, "**** Nazio." It's ignorant to assume that even a majority of people associated with Lazio are racists or facists. The club cannot be responsible for the actions or beliefs of the fans. They're responisble for their own behavior at matches.

Agree with the first part disagree with the second. The club is to blame also if their directors don't detach the institution from such attitudes; that should also include a public fine on di Canio.
Also, if they don't want to see nazist saluts and flags on the hands of supporters wearing Lazio jerseys - because they (should) condemn radical political movements - then the answer is simple: ban them from Lazio games.

This is my stance when fascism and football mix, whether we're talking about Lazio, Real or my own club.

Celebs are always making reference to political or religious beliefs, no one gets their panties in a twist over that.

That is no argument in my opinion: 2 wrongs don't make a right. :chew:

“When I am in France, people often ask me how I can play in Italy, seeing as every Sunday they seem to hear about strange behaviour,” explained the Juventus defender. “The truth is that Italy isn’t like that, it’s just that the images they choose to project around the world are the worst ones. Serie A is not as it would appear to an outsider.”

Yeah, things like these tend to be overblown and nobody talks about the positives anymore, and what usually is a minor occurrence is perceived as a normal every-day event for those outside that reality. But those images surely aren't CGI, so something has to be done. I don't know why club boards, federations, etc. are so defensive when it comes to banning morons out of a football game...

I'm not saying that two wrongs make a right, what I'm saying is that both are wrong neither should be condoned. Political statements of all kinds should be condemned on the pitch. Picking and choosing which ones are "Okay" is a bit subjective, isn't it?

Pede54, what I was trying to say is that Di Canio may love the club because he thinks it is facist. He does give a sh*t about the club, his views just may be a bit skewed. The club may not be punishing him because they don't think it's up to their own judgement to decide that his personal political statement is wrong or not and as far as I know (which may not be too far) political statements are not banned from the pitch, only ones that are decided to be "radical" or "extreme." And as far as I know, which the same applies, his actions have not been directly coorelated with any violent acts.

Football fans do not want to know about a players politics.Thry go to a game for the football. Then you get a moron like DiCanio who turns a football match into a chance to force upon the rest of us his Facist beliefs. The dirtbags in the Lazio crowd whom Dicanio was saluting, are not there for the football,or even if they are,the football is secondary.Whats these creeps are waiting for is exactly what Dicanio gave them.He is entitled to his beliefs,as are the dickheads in the crowd, but he should not be allowed to turn a football match into a political rally. His little crowd of psuedo facists might have enjoyed it but the rest of us did not.The club should be disgusted with him,the country should be disgusted with him.He has shamed Italy in the eyes of the free world, and how Italy decides to persue this matter will decide how we view Italy from now on.
Uefa and Fifa should insist that the Italian football federation hand out a severe punishment to Dicanio. They are there for "the good of the game",and they should for once earn their high saleries and luxurioius lifestyles, and come down hard on this degenerate like a ton of bricks.

Holt......You are obviously an insecure whitey moron who must have all sorts of paranoic feelings running amock in your head.Do yourself a favour and see a shrink before you make yourself seriously mentally ill mate. What he did was a Facist salute mate.I suppose you are gonna tell us next that the extermination of 3 million Jews was pure fiction too.Or the genocide in Abbysinia by Mussolini just never happened.A facist salute pays homage and respect to these acts of evil.
If i see someone wearing a tee shirt with Black Power,Brown Power,Yellow power, green power or white power,i think the same thing every time.......I think "Wanker".
A colour ,whatever that colour might be,is not really something that anyone should be proud or ashamed of.Are you proud of being white Holt?....Then tell me why you are proud of your white skin.Is a black man proud to be black?....Then tell me Black man,why are you so proud of your skin colour. Its not so much a matter of being proud of the colour of your skin, its just important that you are not ashamed of it.There is a difference.
To be a decent tolerant human being is really something to be proud of,but if you are not ,then it does not matter what colour skin you have, you have only a reason to be ashamed.DiCanio should be ashamed,as should anyone that defends what he did.

Pede54, I think we agree to a certain extent. We're both calling for action to be taken against Di Canio. The difference is that you're more avidly against facism and I'm simply would like for UEFA, FIFA or whoever does punish Di Canio, to do so by consistantly punishing players making political statements on the pitch.

You've just got no idea. I'm a lefty through and through - the fact that my hero, one of my top 3 sportsmen in the world ever, is a fascist pains me so much I can't even tell you. But these sorts of things aren't rational, so I like to concentrate on the good parts, like flicking it up to himself and beating Cudicini from 35.

A Facist has no good parts man.You see ,if he was intelligent enough to keep his perverted ideologies to himself, then we could be happy in our ignorance, but its too late.He has let the world know what he is, and now in my eyes he is, and will always be scum.

I found this at the BBC......Blatter says he should be banned for life....

Di Canio banned for second salute
Lazio striker Paolo Di Canio has been banned for one game and fined 10,000 Euros for making a raised-arm salute in a match against Juventus on Saturday.
The former Italy international made the gesture after being substituted in the 1-1 draw against Juventus at the Olympic Stadium.

The 37-year-old also made a fascist salute during the Serie A defeat at Livorno on 11 December.

He will now miss Lazio's trip to Lecce on Wednesday.

Di Canio also made a fascist salute at the end of Lazio's 3-1 win over city rivals AS Roma in January.

On that occasion he was fined 10,000 euros and escaped a ban.

The gestures have been attacked by politicians, players, fans and Jewish groups in Italy.

Sepp Blatter, president of world soccer's governing body Fifa, said players making fascist salutes should be banned from the game for life.

Even Lazio distanced themselves from Di Canio, saying the club rejected any "politicisation" of football.

Di Canio defended the gesture, saying it was not intended as a political statement and that he would continue to acknowledge his fans in whatever way he chooses.

And here is Blatters statement

(Reuters) - FIFA boss Sepp Blatter has cautioned Lazio's Paolo Di Canio about the player's fascist salute to fans last weekend, revealing that soccer's governing body was keeping track of the controversial Italian's actions.

Blatter said FIFA had a dossier on Di Canio and promised tough measures would be taken to punish players and clubs found guilty of racist behaviour.

The FIFA president added that Di Canio could possibly find himself kicked out of the game if such a verdict were delivered.

"We now have this item in our files," Blatter told a small gathering of invited journalists on Friday.

"My reaction is that we have to be very tough against all discrimination in our game," he added.

"I cannot make an assessment of fact on Di Canio yet as I only know what has been reported.

"But in such cases we must also exclude players from our family."

Di Canio's indiscretion in Livorno on Sunday was the most recent in a series of controversies which have sparked renewed accusations that racism is rife in the Italian game.

Lazio fans also held up a swastika during the match while the home supporters chanted anti-fascist songs.

Di Canio was fined 10,000 euros (6,779 pounds) for making a similar fascist salute at the end of a city derby with Roma in January.

The 37-year-old has defended his action and called on the Rome club, which traditionally has many far-right followers, to fight off any disciplinary action.

Italian clubs delayed the kickoff of matches by five minutes two weeks ago to protest against racism after Messina's Ivory Coast defender Marc Zoro was abused by Inter Milan fans.

Blatter said that clubs found to be persistent offenders could face stiff penalties.

"Definitely, the only sanction you can take against racism is the deduction of points, suspension or expulsion from competition -- or even relegation to the next league," he said.

"It's a shame for sport. A financial sentence is nothing. We have to be really tough."
