I think giving Avram Grant a permanent contract was the only thing they could do. He needed a payrise because his previous role at Chelsea didn't pay a deservable amount to be first team coach I'm assuming. It's not as if they can give him a caretaker managers contract. I assume the contract will be a short one, and possibly have a number of clauses that mean if he doesn't peform up to standards, he can be replaced without too much of a financial loss.

Well I would hope so man. I just read that Grant does not have the relevent coaching badges yet. Must be the same thing that Southgate had a problem with huh? I think that a coach is only allowed 12 weeks without the badges unless he gets an extention from the powers that be.

Maybe 12 weeks will be long enough for the guy though huh?

In that case it's not a bad move for Chelsea. Give Avram Grant a bit of time to see if he is up to standard. And presumabely if he isn't, his contract can be terminated because he doesn't have the necessary qualifications to fulfill the role. So he won't be entitled to any financial package because it's no fault of Chelsea's. The worst that is going to come from this is going to be 12 weeks of mediocre results, before a top class manager is brought in. By then alot of damage could have been done, especially in the Champions league. But any adequate coach with the talent Chelsea has will hardly mess up the season THAT bad.

Well I would hope not anyway. I'm thinking that, as you say, with the players we have there really isn't any reason why we shouldn't still have a reasonable season ahead. Making sure of a CL place is the minimum expectation I should think. Anything other than that I would class as a bonus this season TBH. If we do achieve something else that would be fantastic. I'm still optomistic though. We'll just have to see how it goes I guess. It will be interesting to see how we do from here on in. I must say though, I aint to worried at all. I'm hoping (and praying):amika:, that Grant will surprise a lot of people, including me.

Time for Hiddink I think. He can kick Carvalho out and place Alex in the starting 11.
Carvalho has been injured. So not even playing. If anybody should go, it should be Ben Haim...

I'd rather stick with Alex and Terry if Riccy's out....Ben Haim seems too sluggish for me, especially when dealing with pacey defenders like Torres......the qualifications of Avram aren't enough as mentioned as he's never coached outside his country so if the results don't get any better in the following 12 weeks or so, he could always get the boot......

The Observer is reporting that Roman Abramovich gave a tactical briefing to the team against Rosenborg on Tuesday, and used Shevchenko as a translator. While Mourinho was occupied with press duties, Abramovich allegedely told Essien how to pass lmao. I also heard it on some football show on sky sports this morning. Other reports are the players are blaming John Terry for Mourinho leaving. He allegedely fell out with him before the Rosenborg game, then when Mourinho criticised him at half time over Rosenborgs game, he refused to even acknowledge Mourinho. Interesting info keeps coming out of this story.

Great, one harsh red card and there goes the game. I've done that in games and not even gotten a yellow, that wasn't aggresive enough for a red.

And wtf is SWP, he's not injured is he?

I wouldn't mind van Basten too much, but I just remembered, KLINSMANN!!!

How could Abrahimovich not like Klinsman, maybe because he's German but he'd give Roman the sort of football he wants and I think he'd make a decent coach too. He also speaks excellent English because of living in California, etc.

I've heard that they offered the job to Klinsmann. But he won't negotiate because he doesn't want the interference from the board. He won't work in them conditions. No matter how much they pay him.

HAHAHA, from the Guardian

"Of course, in times of distress - aka mass player exodus - nothing warms the heart quite like the sight of a Russian billionaire bearing a fistful of roubles. So new Chelsea boss Avram Grant will be gladdened by news that Roman Abramovich is set to splash the cash this January as only he knows how.
Turns out Abramovich fancies getting his mitts on a Brazilian. In fact, being seriously cashed up and all, two Brazilians. To that end, Grant will be handed £100m and sent off to the corner shop for a bottle of vodka, a packet of fags and Ronaldinho and Kaka. Never one to do things by halves, Abramovich is determined to up the ante in his long-running quest for Saturday afternoon entertainment, and is already drooling at the prospect of watching the pair operate in tandem."

This Russian clown has turned out club into a circus. I can't bear to watch this bull**** no more.

Saha wrapped it up 2-0. Well, even when Terry and the others were applauding the Chelsea fans at the end (dno why, they boo'ed the whole game) they just got boo'ed again. I've probably never seen such a high profile club in such a crisis. It's just mental.

Chelsea fans booed John Terry when he came back onto the pitch after half time.

That is bollocks and you know it. That was Man U fans booing.

Didy.....you are a fu<king disgrace. That "russian clown" saved Chelsea from oblivion you idiot. I guess you only joined us AFTER that.

And Kulixs....we've tolerated you here long enough mate. If you wanna take the piss then fu<k off back to the Man U thread.

didy and treble41....I suggest you 2 do the same. Chelsea does not need tossers like you.

Crisis?

Chill.

Listen, this club is FC Chelsea. There is no crisis that will last longer than a season. We're loaded with cash and if we need to bring in new players, we will, if we need to bring in a new manager, we will, and we'll be Premiership chances next season or the season after that if we can't get the title this year. We're gonna win the Champions League soon enough too.

Jose Mourinho is a great coach and I hope he goes down as a Chelsea legend but him leaving isn't the end of anything. In fact, I'm optimistic, maybe we can move forward and bring in a manager who suits the attacking style that Abrahimovich desires like Hiidink. We'll be a more attacking and invinsible team probably in the near future. Mourinho is a great manager when it comes to scraping out results but that's for smaller clubs, he would be better off at a mid table club, but not at a big club. You can't expect to win consistently at a big club if you try to grind out results in every game. And I know that he tried to play a more fluid and attacking style this season but truth is, he isn't the sort of manager suited or skilled to attempt that style.

Avram Grant will be manager for a short term and then a bigger name will be brought in, and if a big name manager isn't brought in this year, then he will be in the summer.

I still see Chelsea in a better position than any other English club, they may not win the Prem this year (still too early to judge), but they're still better off than other teams.

As for Mourinho, hopefully he goes and coaches Bayern Munich (that's being a bit too optimistic), I just hope he doesn't end up with some Italian or Spanish club.

Point is, we've still been the best football club the last three years and we'll still be at the top for the next three (although you could always argue for clubs in different leagues like Barca or Milan).
