Haha I love the confusions between the database history of the clubs and the history created in the save games, classic CM/FM.

Haha, that's the second time I've gotten that error. I remember getting it in the FA Cup when I drew United in an old save after they'd won it like 4 times in a row.

Twenty games down annnnnnnnd...

We're playing like shit.

I think I did all of that during that little skid. It was so frustrating to watch them continually shit the bed no matter what changes I made. I really need Nene (a solid defensive midfielder from Cape Verde I got on a free in the summer) back. The team is like a boat without a rudder without him.

Despite playing like that I'm actually not that far off the playoff spot (I am *not* reaching 1st). We'll see. I'd be happy with anything above 8th, honestly.

WWE/Portugal related: Alto Montoya was Justin Credible.

Ugh. Probably just blew my chance by not taking three points off Rio Ave in a match I dominated from start to finish. Just couldn't score. To make it worse, Vitória lost this week, that doesn't happen often.

That loss against Chaves early in the year just keeps getting shittier and shittier!

Fábio Coentrão is on Rio Ave and he's way too good for this division.

My skinny, Southern ass is not cut out for snow. Some people here find snow to be charming and romantic, but that's only because we so rarely get it, if we got it all the time they'd probably hate it. I don't like it.

I didn't know that Nelly Furtado is Azorean, well Azorean-Canadian, and from São Miguel (where Santa Clara is from) no less. I love her. I know some people think she's 'eh' but that ass, man, that ass.

Ponta Delgada is also twinned with Fall River, Mass., which is a really big deal in the history of American soccer.

You learned something today.

To my game then:

Got promoted! But it was far from straight-forward.

Vitória completely hit the skids toward the end of the season, but it's not like I didn't...

The Fatima game was particularly awful, the 2-1 scoreline was extremely flattering to me and honestly had they won 6-0 it would've been justified. Completely abject performance only saved by Rio Ave losing on the same day. The draw against Estoril wasn't great either but it was beautiful compared to the previous performance. Thankfully Zezinho finally decided to rectify his form -- which at the time was somewhere below a microwaved turd and above Arsenal vs. Blackburn today -- and scored against Lamas.

We really backed into it, but it's cool to have done it. Probably my best FM achievement in awhile (I usually just fool around with Arsenal or Milan). I do fear what's going to happen to them next season though, the debt is pretty high and I need to bring in some new players to stave off relegation. I might take a Premier League job if it comes open, I really want to get back into playing the Champions League.

If the Charlie's Angels special "Love Boat Angels" ever comes on, do yourself a favor and watch it.

Yeah, I'm working on getting guys in on free transfers and loans now. I have a partnership with Sunderland (not my idea) but no Sunderland players want to come play for Santa Clara.

This is my new favorite thread. (H)

In FM 12, I was offered the Varzim job, they had just gotten promoted and the team consisted of free agents, cast offs, old players and loanees. I managed to avoid relegation, but it wasn't fun at all.

The next year, I asked for more money which the board agreed to, but gave me the task of finishing midtable and only 1.5m to play with! I thought it was doable, but nobody I tried to buy wanted to come. After a decent start I got in a slump. I lost like four in a row and got sacked. :(

Varzim's manager is a dick to me! He was talking shit from the moment I got to Santa Clara, but he's shut up now that his shit team is fighting relegation from the Liga de Honra while I'm getting my ass kicked by Porto and Benfica in the Primeira (H).

Did you guys watch All-Star Saturday last night? The first three parts were cool but what a sad joke the dunk contest has turned into. I didn't even know who half those guys were, and the guy from the Knicks couldn't even dribble. I liked how most of them had like 50 attempts too, that wasn't ridiculous at all.

It's been years since I've seen anyone drinking a Sprite.

Anyway, I'm halfway through the league and was doing okay until the schedule handed me a straight-up Murderers' Row.

Look at that shit. Braga (who are *much* better than the table indicates), Benfica, Sporting, and Porto all in a nice little row. Hell, why not throw Boavista in there too?

That weird Leiria score wasn't because I'm good, their first two goalkeepers were either suspended or injured.

I had actually mostly forgotten about Boavista after their real life collapse. It's crazy because they're way down the leagues now and have an incredible stadium. Do they still have a lot of fans, Fili?

They have more fans than anyone in their league by a landslide, obviously, but truth be told they never had so many fans as to fill their 30,000 seat stadium every week. Still, in their prime (when they won the league in 2001), the stadium was pretty always more than half full.

With the scandal that went through, though, it's almost a miracle that they're still a club. João Loureiro (the man who was president when they won the league and went to the CL, AND the man who as "guilty" of the whole scandal to begin with) is back as president, we'll see if he can make them return to the 1st league.

Today is Presidents' Day. It's actually George Washington's birthday, but it's used to honor the "office of the Presidency". Washington wasn't the biggest fan of my hometown though so whatever.

I'm a Jimmy Carter man myself.

Up for the Cup! Kinda, I had a ton of injuries to key players after getting really lucky in that department all season. Mokoena and a couple of destroyers got hurt which meant a makeshift engine room against Benfica. Guess how that worked out.

Not bad, actually. I took Nene off for Andrade in desperate search of a goal that never game, eventually I brought Siston on too but he was so unfit that he was never going to make a difference. Props to Nuno Amaro got getting his ass handed to him by Simão, 'preiciate it. Lowery (who I think is a regen) was able to contain Simão in the second half but he offers nothing going forward.

The reinforcements brought in during the January window were good for an improvement of two points from the first half of the season, and a cup final run of course. I still need to add a lot if I'm to make a run at the big teams, they're just *so* much better than everyone else. Look at that gap.

I thought I drew a lot but look at Sporting and Braga!

You can see the run of draws here, and of course the losses to the big teams. The young Mexican keeper I bought from Pumas is developing into a bit of a star.

I was offered jobs at DC United, New York, Braga, and Middlesborough during the season but didn't want to abandoned this project.

So I've got the UEFA Cup next year thanks to Benfica winning the league and thus qualifying for the CL.

Meanwhile the USA fans are calling me shit because I only beat Belize 4-1 with Dempsey, Adu, and Altidore all injured. I'm certain that every last one of them is a BigSoccer poster.

It's too long of a deal, Shifty. It involves refs and fraud and all that. João Loureiro and his father (who was President of Boavista before him, and also President of the Portuguese League (H)), were in on all sorts of deals, and they fucked the club off the CL money and that.

The thing is, it was an injustice towards the club that they got demoted by the moron head of the Disciplinary Commission of the League, because of a conviction in the civil, not sporting, law. It's a mess, really.
