I disagree. Its not entirely about the numbers, remember the Uruguay games were played at Telstra Stadium, not the G.Glorious said:you have a point, but i would assume it is a numbers game and i bet if the cup was hosted here, MCG would be the final.
plus as earlier mentioned we have 9 or 10 stadiums that are suitable under FIFA rules. Yes most are ovals but they still comply.
I think a World Cup final would be much better at Telstra. Simply because it is much better for Football. MCG spectators are so far from the action! Altho studies have shown this leads to better refereeing, and after the recent World Cups refereeing maybe the MCG would be a good idea, esp. for Australian matches
As for most of our stadiums being ovals: Suncorp, SFS/Aussie Stadium and Telstra Stadium are some of the best rectangle stadiums in the world IMO. Theyre all really close to the action, but hold big crowds and have modern facilities.
The dome and the MCG are the main two stadiums that would be useda that are better suited to oval sports, but the dome isnt overly big anyway.
I think itll be hard to convince FIFA to hold the Cup outside of europe for a third time in a row tho...So maybe 2022 is more realistic! If we got the World Cup, Im sure there would be funds for stadiums to be upgraded or a new stadiums built anyway...But already there is loads of good stadiums: Suncorp, ANZ Stadium, Aussie Stadium, Telstra Stadium, Telstra Dome, MCG and that's just down the east coast! Some other NRL stadiums could be upgraded to hold more people too...At the moment the problem is we have loads of decent stadiums that hold around 30,000 people, but we need them to go to that next level and hold a few more..
