Spalletti ignores Scudetto Monday 15 January, 2007

Roma boss Luciano Spalletti was not worried after the home draw with Messina as his side aren’t expected to win the Scudetto.
The Giallorossi dropped to nine points behind leaders Inter after the slip-up at the Stadio Olimpico, but the Coach believes it was not a decisive result.
“We will keep on going – I don’t think two points mean that much at this stage,” said Spalletti on Monday.
“We are not forced to win the Scudetto, therefore if we were not to reach that result I wouldn’t be that disappointed, it wouldn’t mean that the season was a failure – Inter are a strong side.
“The team played well yesterday and this is the most important thing. Unfortunately the pitch did not allows us to develop our usual game, but we cannot expect to win every game.”
Spalletti has yet to renew his contract, which expires in June, but director general Rosella Sensi does not believe that there will be any problems.
“The Coach’s extension? We are all serene, we just need to be left alone,” said the official, who refused to compare the tactician to any of his predecessors, as done with Roberto Mancini and Helenio Herrera.
“Who would I compare Spalletti to? Only to Spalletti,” added Sensi.
