2012/13 UEFA Champions League: The Road to Wembley VII

Most of the world (commentators including Martin tyler - a known Arsenal lover, pundits, journalists, even Liverpool fans!) think it is not a red card. The majority. But on SG, it is the other way around.

This is what some papers are saying:

goal.com:

"The United winger appeared to be challenging for the ball and certainly meant no harm to Arbeloa, but the consequence of his dismissal was that the home side’s gameplan, which had worked so well to that point, was ruined."

Skysports:

The second leg of the last-16 encounter turned firmly in the favour of the side from Spain the moment referee Cuneyt Cakir brandished a shock red card to Nani in the 56th minute following the winger's clumsy, but not malicious, high challenge on Alvaro Arbeloa.

The Daily Mail

The Portuguese winger challenged for the ball with a raised foot and only had eyes for the ball but caught Alvaro Arbeloa. It looked like dangerous play and at worst a yellow card.

MARCA.com

Controversy during the Old Trafford match came in the 57th minute, when a dangerous tackle by Nani on Arbeloa was judged by Turkish referee Cüneyt Çakir's to merit a red card for the Portuguese international, when it should have been a yellow in the opinion of former Spanish referee, Andújar Oliver, on Radio MARCA.

Just shows how biased and anti-man utd the opinion on SG is.

Even Marca (a well known biased madrid website) is saying it was a yellow

Shut the fuck up Nady

Intelligent way to end an argument. I am impressed!

I was just quoting some stuff from outside of the world of SG. Why are you pissed off?

Maybe we just hate you for being a crybaby entitled prick the one time a controversial decision goes against your club, instead of being biased against Manchester United. Would have loved to see Fergie's reaction if Arbeloa did the same thing to Nani and only got a yellow.

Whatever you say, Sir. You are entitled to your own opinion.

No there doesn't...

Wrong. Read the "FIFA Laws of the game 2012/2013" http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/footballdevelopment/refereeing/81/42/36/lawsofthegame_2012_e.pdf

Go to page 36.

Deliberately means intentionally. You should revise your ref lessons.

Red Card [Being a douche] exp. 22/1/06
It is kind of funny that Nady is the one b!tching. So you stockpiled a few opinions that were against that being a red card. I bet if you look you can find as many other sources that think it was indeed a red card. We do get the fact you are indeed a United fan and are crying foul, the thing is it would probably help yo in the long run not to be such a sore loser. One call didnt go your way big fvcking deal, how many times has Fergies crew been on the other end of the deal? Be quiet and take it as it is.

You say that now but wait until you face the unstoppable juggernaut that is the mighty ARSENAL.

I'm just going to enjoy being the only English team left until you destroy us :(

And it would appear the most german British team (Poldi, Mertesacker) and the most german Spanish team (Ozil, Khedira) will be the last standing teams of their respective countries. (H) Good times.

Just because something wasn't meant to cause harm doesn't mean it shouldn't be a red.

I take back what I said, I think this isn't that controversial of a call. It was very dangerous. If the opposite thing happened there is no doubt in my mind that Nady, help and SAF would change their stance 180 degrees.

Well, not from reputed sources. Some guys here were saying that Keane said that it was a red card. However, some Madridistas like Marca and X. Alonso said the contrary. My point was that opinions vary but most (but not all) thought it was not a red.

I certainly understand that and I am have accepted the defeat. If you read in the United thread, I said that this loss puts us in an excellent position to win the league. I am being positive about it. I was just debating why I think it was not a red. Simple as that.

Yellow Card - Racism; Exp. 31/08/2013
This all stem back to the kung fu kick De Jong did in the WC final, then it was a yellow...

Deliberate does not mean with intent. Players in a free kick wall can't close their eyes and put their hands in the air

Rafael's handball was neither intentional nor deliberate.

FIFA revises interpretations of the rules without updating the rulebook. Offside interpretation changed in 2005 without the rule changing. Quoting from the rulebook is about as handy as if I were to quote from the US Statutes without ever telling you what the Supreme Court had to say.
