xiaoarc said:Zidane has retired right? So what's the use of the ban?
Fernandez said:Zidane should have been stripped of the Golden Ball instead.
Num Lock said:hahaha, did you see anyone playing better than him? cuz i didn't see any.
Rui10Costa said:The FC Internazionale Milano centre-back has been handed a two-match ban and a €3,182 fine by FIFA for his part in the incident that saw Zinédine Zidane sent off in the FIFA World Cup final. The Italians are due to play Group B rivals Lithuania in Naples on 2 September before travelling to Paris to take on France again four days later. Zidane, meanwhile, has been given a three-match suspension for head-butting Materazzi, as well as a €4,773 fine, although he has retired from football so will instead spend three days doing community work for world football's governing body.

PunkassTony said:This has set a ridiculous precedent. Every player that gets sent off for retaliating now has grounds to get the instigator banned. Totally unjust and incredibly inconsistent based on the fact that this happens all the time.
How many times have the likes of Wayne Rooney, David Beckham and probably even Materazzi himself been sent off for retaliating due to provocation?? Learn to control yourself. Simple.

dsh said:I'm surprised to see only a three-match ban for Zidane, and the fine amounts are absurdly low.
But honestly, there's nothing wrong with suspending Materazzi for a couple matches. He admitted that he provoked Zidane, and it's possible that his language severely crossed the line.
If FIFA are really going to try to sell this overarching Fair Play, Let's All Be Friends mantra, they have to back it up by banning the provoker.
darth vader said:this was indeed a bad move from zidane, but i also think the mateRATzzi suspension is fair, and doesn't set a precedent, because mateRATzzi admited that he insulted zidane. there is a lot of retaliating due to provocation in football, but how many times did a player admited that he insulted his agressor? i don't remember a single one.
Callum said:why do u care? its not like u need materazzi for gods sake, and its not like you have to pay for the fine.
Mikey said:AAHAHAHAH you idiot. Fabio Cannavaro was obviously the best player of the tournament. Id even say half of Italys starting lineup deserved it more than Zidane.
What was a biggery mockery of FIFA, the fact they gave that c*nt Zidane the golden ball or that Materazzi got banned 2 games for talking smack.... something as common in football(and all sports) as running into snobby douchebags in France. Au revoir
