So you punish the guy for being honest? What about when Maradona admitted he used his hands with the "Golden hand goal" against England in the 86' WC? I bet Fifa was laughing when they were watching that replay.

wait a minut. materazzi was not punished because he was honest, but because he did insult another player. it would be too easy. if anyone that admit something wrong that he've done, and would be forgiven, i think everyone would be honest, and would repeat the same things over and over again.

and when you talk about the maradona's "Golden hand goal", you have to admit that it's easier to ban one single player for 2 games, than replay an entire match. these are 2 different situations.

even if my opinion can be considered suspicious (because i am a french fan), i think the punishment of materazzi was fair. ppl in the forum talks "oh, insults are normal, they happen all the time", i don't agree at all! this is not because it happens all the time that it is something that should be accepted. i play football and i don't like beeing insulted. so, i never insult other players. that' s the way it should be. but here the more important is: if the referee hears a player insulting another, he can send him off. so , materazzi admitted it, he is banned. that's fair.

haha what a pile of crap! fifa is so gay.

if it wasn't zidane that headbudded materazzi all of this crap wouldn't happen. The guy would get a 10 k fine and 4 or 5 games ban. but hey it's zizou i guess.

they should strip him of the golden ball (playing 2 decent and 1 good game isn't enough) instead.

banning materazzi is retarded, talking trash to eachother during the game is part of the game, if you can't take that go play ping pong.

So he makes fun of his mother and sister and you ban him? For two matches??? If that's the case then we are going to have an average of 3-5 two match bans per game... The first game ever recorded in soccer history had these insults, it's ugly, but it's apart of the game. Absolutely unjustified and ridiculous... O well, we'll probably have Nesta anyways, lol.

Yes, that's right. As I said, if FIFA is going to try to spread their fair play philosophy, they absolutely had to sanction both players.

Trash talk, while it's a perfectly common and generally harmless form of abuse, still qualifies as abuse. If FIFA wants to talk the fair play talk, they have to walk the fair play walk. It's as simple as that.

How would it have looked for them to suspend Zidane for the physical violence while not bothering to condemn Materazzi for provoking it? FIFA would have looked like fools if they had failed to back up their rhetoric with action.

It's just not right that the only time you get bann or fine for provoking is when you do it to some of the best players, who get angry. If you provok and the other player does nothing stupid, yuo won't be punished... Just get the things right please. There are bigger problems in football than that... I'll say one word and you'll understand: C.Ronaldo... :boohoo:
