True, but he played until 2006 and was part of the undefeated Arsenal side. You have a couple of players in your starting 11 that also played most of their careers in the 90's (Hierro, Figo).

And who can forget this Bergkamp goal from 2002. :browsmiley:

Aye, what I meant was that I forgot that Bergkamp stayed active for so long after his peak.

and I'm going to disregard any starting 11 that doesn't include Zidane.

He is the most overrated player of our time.

In his prime, Ronaldinho was a better attacking midfielder.

Plus, Zidane is a dispicable human being. The moment he head-butted Materazzi is the moment I lost every ounce of respect I would have had for him. He is a disgrace to the game.

nah Zidane is unique, i mean his technique and elegancy ftw.

but indeed he is bad person, otherwise would not play in madrid.

For some reason I thought Bergkamp was more of a 90's player, like Kluivert, Overmars, Rivaldo, etc.
his best performance on the international stage was at EURO 2000, which is part of this decade, so he definitely can be considered ... similar story for Bobo Vieri, and others, I'm sure ...

actually, there's a whole generation of players who had prominence in the mid to late 90s, but also had glory moments in the early 00s ... then there's a completely separate generation of players whose rise to stardom was clearly in the 00s ...

I can't name my team of the decade because there are too many favourite players of mine who I would want to pick (especially midfield and attack) and who I feel are all deserving, and who all made football enjoyable to watch (which is the point of the game) ...

You're entitled to your opinion, but I'm guessing you didn't watch a whole lot of Zidane's matches. As for the Materazzi incident, that's when I gained more respect for him. Materazzi is a disgusting player and he deserved worse.

Any other reasons why you find him dispicable/overrated?

Anyway,

GK: Buffon

DR: Cafu
DC: Puyol
DC: Maldini
DL: Lahm *shrugs*

DM: Vieira

MR: Messi
ML: Pires

Hole: Bergkamp

ST: Henry
ST: Larsson

Bench: Friedel (GK), Ferdinand (DC), Alves (FB), Nedved (MF), Zidane (AM), Torres (ST), Gio (Utility)

Manager: Martin O'Neill

People are going to say "LARSSON PLAYED FOR CELTIC!", but that doesn't matter. He was incredible, he tore Arsenal apart in that CL final by himself.

That looked accidental. Then he fouled the defender before scoring. Bergkamp FTL.

Casillas
Cafu Puyol Nesta Maldini
CRonaldo Zidane Ronaldinho Messi
Shevchenko Bellamy

Subs: Given, Garrido, Gattuso, Cygan, Jeffers, Mellor, Kaka

Haha, Jeffers (H).

Jeffers was amazing, he was the original Rooney, only better. But Everton ran him into the ground and ruined him like Charlie Sheen with a hooker. Now they're doing the same to Rodwell.

He had a gimp ankle for like two years before Arsenal finally found it.

Buffon
Cafu Puyol Maldini R. Carlos
Makelele
Lampard Zidane
Ronaldinho
Ronaldo Henry

Didn't include the likes of Messi and Cristiano as they only have playeda few years on the top level, whereas there are many who have been there for almost the whole decade. Can't bother to post the subs, either, since everybody's list is pretty much the same.

That's pretty much how i see it too, except I'd replace Beckham with Nedved. And maybe ditch Ronaldinho as a midfielder and put Henry in as a second striker.

Did you forget in 2000 when he drove his national team to the Euro 2000 glory? How about this goal in the UCL final in 2003?

He might not have the speed and tricks as Ronaldinho but he was a great playmaker and was the drive for France and Real madrid for winning the world cup, euro and UCL.

Created just for fun.

So, who would make it to your team of the decade?

Will post mine in a while.

EDIT:

---------------Buffon---------------
------------------------------------
Cafu---Cannavaro---Nesta---R Carlos
------------------------------------
--------------Gattuso---------------
Ronaldinho---------------------Giggs
---------------Zidane---------------
------------------------------------
---------Inzaghi-----Ronaldo--------

Honorable mentions:

Casillas
Figo
Messi
C. Ronaldo
Gerrard
Lampard
Raul
Kaka
Lucio
Nedved
...

Zidane(Jan 2000 to May 2003) does not belong on that team. The same can be said for Ronaldinho(Sept 2003 to June 2006)...Kaka lasted longer. I'd like to say the same about Ryan Giggs but there aren't too many left wingers out there so he'll have to do. His best days were in the 90s though.

The 2 CMs MUST be Lampard(2003 to present) and Gerrard(2004 to present).

Casillas
Cafu
Roberto Carlos
Maldini
Cannavaro
Gerrard - Lampard - INSERT RANDOM NAME HERE(Giggs?)
Kaka
-----------Henry
