World Cup 2010 qualifiers.

Well, i don't know about the other places but the qualifiers start tomorrow for South America. The system remains the same, the 10 teams play against eachother twice making a total of 18 matches for each side, the top 4 qualify to the World Cup and the 5th to the play-off no longer with the winner of the OFC but the 4th of the CONCACAF. And so the matches for the first matchday. The 2nd matchday will be between the Tuesday and Wednesday.

A detail, i don't know if this will apply everywhere or only in South America, but from now on for the eliminatory matches the starting players will have to wear numbers between 1 and 11 and the substitutes will have numbers between 12 and 18. Which brings up the question, who will wear number 10 in Argentina? Riquelme or Messi?

Kaka, Ronaldinho and Robinho the 3 would be starters against Colombia. However Robinho isn't 100% sure, if it isn't him then it'll be Vágner Love.

Yes, Ayala retired from the national team. And Crespo wasn't called, not sure why, probably Basile considered that he wasn't play that much for Inter lately, but then again he called Riquelme who doesn't even play at Villarreal, thus Basile looks like an hypocrite becaus he said himself that he wouldn't call a player that doesn't have a spot on his club, yet he called Riquelme... And not Crespo, and also i am wondering why Aimar wasn't called either.

Yeh, pretty strange Riquelme being called-up on those conditions. That's something a coach like Scolari would do :p

Watching Argentina's attackers, I think that the couch is gonna have a hard time benching so many great scorers. But, it's the NT, the players will be much more understanding than in club games, because, it's after all their home country.

Even if he's without regular football for months now? That's arguable. A player no matter how good he is needs to play regularly on a team.

^ Agreed. But Riquelme is Riquelme. Take for example our boy C.Ronaldo. Even if C.Ronaldo is sort of slightly injured or playing at 50% (or less) of what he knows, he will always be called, because he is above the others in skill and reputation. And that has happened some times...just remember that he was in doubt against Armenia and didn't do a sh*t...except that he scored a fantastic goal (H)

I hope that Riquelme remembers to score when it really matters, like in Copa America finals or World Cups and not just against small teams...

Oh well so we passed the first test. Mascherano, Zanetti, Cambiasso and Riquelme were the best in my opinion, yes Riquelme didn't play his best game but he scored 2 nice goals, specially the second one. Messi was good not as good as the ones i mentioned before but still good at first he wasn't very participative but he did some nice plays, specially when Agüero came in, maybe they should play together more often. The defense in general was good even though they didn't have too much troubles, good to see that Demichellis is becoming more confident in that position. Maxi Rodriguez and Tevez in similar situation of Riquelme i've seen them playing better but they weren't bad i think that they didn't get too many balls to do anything, specially Maxi.

It seems that against Chile, Riquelme didn't show too much troubles even after 3 months without playing a match, yes he trains at Villarreal but doesn't play. However he was in the pitch the whole match, i have my doubts on how much fit he'll be against Venezuuela, which won't be an easy one. The starting line up will be the same the only doubt is Heinze but it seems that he'll be ok to play against Venezuela. Argentina dominated in the first half and probably deserved to score another goal, then in the second half not much changed except that the argentine players did more circus with the ball than rather trying to score, too much passes and assistanses but hardly anyone tried to shot.

And watch out for the bolivian defense.

About Argentina's match, well not too different from the match against Chile, except that Venezuela had the possesion most of the frst half, though they didn't know what to do with it and once Argentina got the ball and scored the first goal the match was pretty much over. The defense was solid even though the opponent wasn't the big deal, Demichellis was the man of the match was good Milito too and finally he got to score at the national team. Once again, and as usual, good match of Mascherano. Cambiasso were good too, even though Zanetti was playing as a midfielder. Messi improved from the match against Chile. Tevez, Riquelme and Ibarra were ok. Probably the weakest link of Argentina was Burdisso who had a so-so match playing as a left back, by the way he fainted but he just had a slit on his head. Gago played pretty well when he came in Argentina deserved to score 1 or 2 more goals again, it's a pity that Denis couldn't score either.

I guess it's a bit early but i think that, besides Argentina and Brazil, we'll see Paraguay once again in the world cup, they are doing well and in my opinion they were underrated when the eliminatories started, but hopefully this time they'll do better in my opinion they've been running with bad luck in their last tournaments.

While i see Paraguay in the World Cup i am unsure about Ecuador, they had the worst possible start and they can't help their luck either, notice that in 3 of the 5 brazilian goals there was a deflection here or there. I see Ecuador struggling for a spot this time.

Hopefully this time i'll be able to get a ticket to see the match against Bolivia.:rockman:
