a physio on Radio 5 live said that he was of the opinion that Rooney wont make it back until the knockout stages at the earliest.
If Owen is out, im up for one of two options;
1. play Crouch and Bent upfront, i think it'd work
2. Play crouch on his own, and leave Joe cole, Gerrard and Lamps the opportunity to make the chances.
Either will work, and we'll be fine... trust me.

Owen will be fit for the WC so no worries. He could even play the final match of the season according to skysports.. but Rooney would definitely miss the group stage 
If he doesn't make it to the finals then I still think England can win the WC though. Remember that football is not a one-man team. England still have Gerrard, Lampard, Joe Cole etc in the team.. Crouch would do fine especially with Beckham's crosses

England are a lot weaker without Rooney, but they shouldn't write off their chances right away. It's sad that even the players are reacting so much about it, it shows how much confidence they really have. Rooney could have gotten an injury in the first game and be out of the tournament.
After the Euro 04, England should have learnt how to cope without Rooney. There are loads of talent in the team, they have enough to win the cup if they tried hard. Greece won Euro 04 and no one thought they could. South Korea got to the semis (ok, the Italy game was well dodgy but still they advanced pretty far)
they need fit strikers up front, if Owen is not fit, they should not used Owen.
Joe Cole is a good idea. then put in Downing who has been playing really well recently on the left.
