Wayne Rooney to miss World Cup?

After fracturing a metatarsal bone in his right foot today, Wayne Rooney is expected to be out for at least 6 weeks, so is likely to miss some, if not all, of the World Cup.

And with Michael Owen struggling to recover from injury, English hopes of winning the World Cup are beginning to look like :sb9:.

Never mind, you can still pump a few long balls up to Peter Crouch :fool:.

Shola Ameobi and Jon Stead will be sitting next to their phones tonight, waiting for Sven to call!!

Will be devastating if Rooney doesnt play fully fit, he's taken on such a huge dimension this season, a loss to football as a whole. A Rooney-less England can't win the WC I dont think.

Football can be frustrating at times.

Crouch - Harewood

England likes injury prone strikers it seems, and if that's the case I bring good news! Jeremie Aliadiere is qualifyed for a British passport!

Quite bad news for England. Great news for the others, especially for those in the same group. Rooney a fantastic player. England will badly miss him. I've seen good stuff from Harewood this season in the games I watched.

Tom: Heskey? Wth...

Rooney wont recover in such a short space of time.

We had a real chance this time with our best team available now we have a very slim chance.

we still have huuuuge chance.... don't worry... Rooney is fantastic, he's our playmaker, but think of the other 9 players (owen :-/ ) who will be playing... we can still do it... let's go in with full dedication and support for england.

I'd ask Shearer to play.

With Owen and Rooney injured, what has Sven got to lose?

Shearer is injured,too.

John Terry also left Stamford Bridge today in crutches.

Sven must be sh*tting himself.

One plus is Joe Cole.

He's impressed me this season and could do a job in the Rooney role behind Owen.

In that case we'd need an orthodox left winger, ie Downing.

Damn this sucks, even though I dont support England I was hoping to see him play this summer. Oh well, **** happens.

exactly, i don't really give a **** about england's chance, because they were alright but are now mininimal with our two main strikers likely to be out. What's sad is that Rooney won't be able to shine on the biggest stage of football, he won't be able to prove how good a player he is to others.

I expect another 2 fringe player to substain metatarsal injuries before the world cup. Happened to us last time :p

Anyway, Rooney will be a big loss, but its not like we've played without him before, at least this way, he won't be fudged mid competition, leaving Sven with no Plan B again.

Crouch is more likely to win a Chocolate boot which happens to be wrapped in Gold foil.
