Mastroeni must have been braindead to go in full steam, late, from behind like that.

Mastroeni was probably .2 seconds late with his challenge. I know he got all ankle, but it was NOT very late. Pretty clear he was going for the ball in my opinion.

If he was so weakminded as to give a make up call (I know what it is, thank you) then how do you explain the second red to pope? What was he making up for with that? Is it possible he just wasnt a good ref, rather than the fact that he, and apparrently the ref in yestedays match, had an agenda against the United States, and were determined to not let them advance

Its pretty easy to blame the refs for decisions against the US, but when you generate one offensive goal in 270 minutes of play against two very beatable and one good defense, then you dont deserve to be able to blame anyone else

And your personal experience with officiating is irrelevant when it comes to the calls made in this world cup. Thinks have obviously been called tighter than in the past and on the club level. Mastroeni must have been braindead to go in full steam, late, from behind like that.

Are you a soccer fan? Or did you just start glory hunting once Chelsea became good?

Pope's second yellow was one of the sitautions where it was a bookable offense, and sometimes even worthy of being a second bookable offense. However, it was a poor decision to send a second player off when your first red card given was very, very questionable. The US looked dangerous and would most certainly have scored more goals on Italy without the refereeing handicapping our team and forcing us to play in our own end. Don't be ridiculous. I can blame other factors when those factors DIRECTLY IMPACT THE NUMBER OF GOALS WE GENERATED. It's quite clear you are nothing but a US-hater, probably mad about the war or the fact England is a second rate world power now.

And of course FIFA say their referees are doing an excellent job. This is also the same FIFA who creates the world rankings, seeds Mexico over the US even though we have dominated them over the past like 6 years, and seemingly goes out of their way to hire referees that have been found guilty of corruption (Byron Moreno, the Uruguyan official in the Italy game..). Right now, it's difficult to really take FIFA seriously in anything they say or do.

Uh oh. Try and keep the rage to under 4 paragraphs Balla.

For the record, he is not a US hater, he lives here and from my understanding is a fan of the National Team.

No one from the usa nt mgmt are gonna read this.
I am a born american citizen. but i wasnt surprised to see them getting dumped out of the competition.

No ambition. A team needs atleast 1 player who can the tricks and stuff and has bundles of pace. I never saw that in the players. Donovan looked a shadow of what he used to be.

Bruce will retire but then what o the US need?

maybe keeping Adu in the squad would have helped? Maybe Yes. however sh*t he may be at times and balls to the inexperience.(as if the players of teams like togo,T&T,etc have world cup experience). But such a player would have puzzled opposing teams . He has pace and could have sparked the team by atleast coming on as a late sub.

Losing against Ghana was quite a shame. But then again the refs continue their worst evr world cup performances and give ghana an undeserved penalty. We've seen it in the leagues nowadays and also in International football. It happens time after time.
No one can do anything about that.

Face it, USA had a great 2002 WC. and thats it. Sometimes creativity is needed more than organisation.

I may be wrong. But I think IF USA qualifies for WC2010, which they should for sure, unless something out of this world happens, they will do a fantastic WC2010. Some players there in 4 years will reach their potentials...Donovan, Beasley, Onyewu...

And maybe you should do your homework before opening your mouth about people. Your reliance on an incorrect personal attack on multiple counts to try and discredit me is a little pathetic when its prefaces your argument

Please tell me, what evidence do you have that I am "US hater"? Point to the posts that condemn me as such. I stated my opinions on the games and shared them, but you seem to be incapable of accepting those without trying to provoke. And where did I talk about FIFA's defense of its officials, or the rankings systems it employs? I know FIFA are a bunch of old farts intrested in making money under a thin veil of "Promoting and protecting the game", that their referees have been subpar this world cup, and that their rankings system is absolutely meaningless. None of that changes the fact that the officiating has been consistently tight throughout the world cup

Likewise I could be so foolish as to call you a worthless US jocker who only decides to show up and share his opinions on football when the US play which, of course, speaks to a lack of footballing knowledge, but I would never be so presumptious. Likewise I could resort to childishness, like calling you a crybaby bitch, and asking you to change your tampon, but that too would be useless.

By the way, what war would that be? The American Revolution? :|

Why would I do any homework? This is a forum, the point is to have meaningless arguments with people and personally attack them while defending your points!

And I lived in Alabama for 10 years, so take that comment about speaking English and stick it straight up your ass. Unless you are saying the official language of Alabama is Spanish because it's like 99% Mexican now, of course.

I figured this was the best place to post this article from USA Today.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/worldcup/2006-07-06-soccer-in-the-us_x.htm

What is troubling to me is this part of the article.

It's also worth noting that the sports that gain popularity in any culture tend to have great appeal with the lower classes. That's true with soccer in the rest of the world and with sports like basketball here."

• So long as soccer here remains the casual sport of middle-class suburbanites and their elementary school offspring, it won't penetrate our popular culture.

Football grows out of poverty. As long as the lower class is left out football will never catch on in the US.
