US Presidential Debates 2004

Yes, the U.N. was so worthless that the new report that came out disproving the Bush administration's justification for the war on Iraq said the sanctions created an "economic stranglehold" under which Saddam could not produce weapons of mass destruction. I mean if the U.N. was so useless, then we would have found WMDs in Iraq. Instead, it turns out Bush lied, and the sanctions worked.

Have you heard the argument about Saddam just waiting for the sanctions to end so he could resume his WMD production? After all the new stories coming out about French, Russian, and other officials being bribed using a UN program, I wouldn't doubt it. Who were pushing for the sanctions to be lifted? France, Germany, Russia...

Hmmm...

The precious UN... quite the joke if you ask me.

Well let's see, you and Bush have gone from "Iraq has weapons of mass destruction" to "Iraq was working on weapons of mass destruction" to "Well, if the sanctions were lifted, maybe Hussein would have worked on weapons off mass destruction." What's next? "Well, hearsay evidence suggests Saddam once quipped 'You know what would be nice? An atomic bomb.' So the war was justified."

Bottom line: U.N. sanctions prevented Iraq from getting weapons of mass destruction. That's not what I say, that's what the report says. When Iraq did have weapons of mass destruction, it was thanks to the Reagan administration. When they didn't have them, it was thanks to the U.N. Your blind, bizarre, paranoid hatred of the U.N. is forcing you to argue ridiculous hyoptheticals that are really quite an embarrassment for you.

I was at work listening to it so I don't really got everything and saw them. I'll probably catch a C-Span repeat.

I thought the timber-company thing was witty.

Fox news caught faking Kerry's quotes

http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGBY54W2TZD.html

Not a story since it was all in jest and not meant to be posted. Doesn't even compare to CBS actually using forged documents to make up a story about Bush that everyone except Brondby believe are fake.

BUt that's what the kool aid does to ya.. makes you believe everything negative you hear about the guy you hate.

Two observations about the debate. No, three.

1. Damn ugly audience... is that really what American looks like? Fat, ugly, and out of shape? Oh right, yes, that is what we look like.

2. I think there were a total of 3 black dudes and not a single mexican...

3. Bush did better, and Kerry can't logically argue about WMD not being found when he voted for the war using the same intelligence.

Last thought: Brondby is still drinking the Kerry kool aid and will still see his candidate in arms lose in November.

Now Elder, you CAN'T believe that the intelligence presented to Congress was uninfluenced by the Bush Administration. Certain things left off, certain groups silenced, etc.

and the rest of the world(apart from England maybe whose citizens are being murdered) will be laughing their asses off while they watch Bush and his administration dig America deeper and deeper into this hole he's gotten his country into. and who'll be to blame? the dumbasses who voted for him

That's something I can't answer because I have no idea what the intelligence looked like. But I can reasonably say now, a year later, that many questions still need to be answered. All I know is that the previous President had used the same rhetoric against Saddam as Bush did, and nobody complained. He even used some of the same intelligence for sure.

But I think it's a cop out for someone like Kerry to hit at Bush so hard, when he voted for the authorization to use force. He just looks silly, WMD or no WMD.

The debate was even as you can't single out a clear winner.

Bush did defend himself better though but not enough to win votes, that's for sure.

Maybe some of you haven't heard this in the news, but emails were sent out by the Democratic National Committee urging all it's supporters to go to every website that has an online poll and vote for it. This way, they could tip the balance in favor of Kerry and make it look like he did better than he actually did.

It's a rather smart thing to do actually.

Nice spin Elder. But the FOX thing is more problematic than the CBS thing. This "joke" was not written by any old FOX News right-wing mouthpiece. This is the man assigned to cover the Kerry campaign. The fact that someone who clearly loathes Kerry is the one who reports on him to the American people is further evidence of the incredible systematic right-wing bais at FOX News. The sexism and/or homophobia of the quotes is troubling as well. As is the quality of the fact checking: either the people responsible for their news are so lackadaisical that they let this through, or they are so programmed to let anything helpful to Bush through that they don't care.

Your second post is equally absurd. First off, everyone should note the irony of Elder complaining about "believing everything negative you hear about the guy you hate" . . . right before he posts a link from Matt Drudge. Shameful hypocrisy.

Secondly, your argument is severely undercut by the fact that, if this is true (and knowing Drudge and the general credibility of virtually everything Elder posts, that's a long shot), the executive is absolutely right. I have long complained about how far the media will distort the facts to make it look like there is some kind of equivalance between Democrats and Repulicans. Comparing, as they have, the debateable $200 billion figure with Cheney's bald-faced lies about never meeting Edwards and never linking Saddam to 9/11 is an absolute outrage. Sadly they've become so afraid of "LIBERAL BIAS!!!" screaming right-wing zealots like Elder (who are stunningly light on evidence considering how often and how vociferously they make the charge) that there is a now a de facto conservative bias in most of the popular media and an intentional conservative bias in many others like FOX News and the Washington Times.
