About time, but I think the numbers of players registered from the home country should be atleast six or eight.

I guess I'm in the minority on this one, but I don't like this at all. Let the clubs play who they want.

I scoff by ways of a hearty laugh at the fools who think this ammendment will cripple The Arsenal..........hurhurhurhur. It'll only act as a safeguard and hold us back from purchasing third-rate foreigners.......no biggie, no biggie at all, Carlos.

this is a good decision but clearly violates the EU rules concerning freedom of work. you can't limitate a EU citizen from working inside the EU countries. UEFA must deal with the EU the exception statute for a football player.

This is good news. Hopefully the premiership youth academies will once again invest in home grown talent instead of the cheaper option of going abroad for youngsters

No they wont because like it said, in 2008 4 will have to be from the teams own academy. And 4 have to be from there own country. Great idea, Chelsea will have to start investing in youth development now. Where as man utd alreeady have that :mrpimp:

may be they spend money to put some noobs into the academy. you knows, money does make things easy :crazyboy:

Awful idea.

If a player isn't good enough why should he play? Just because he's english, or whereever his team comes from?

The whole Premiership is against ths,

I think this is bad idea because it will just make all the youth stealing that's been going around (ahem arsenal, Man U..) even worse. Also, players will be scouted even younger and more examples of Jean Carlos will pop up.

The idea of having 4 homegrown (ie within the nation) players aint a bad idea. I just don't like the youth academy part.

Of those 11, 3 are foreign, the rest are all Dutch. That BBC article is wrong.

Oh, and good rule (Y)

Clubs should be allowed to play who ever they want.

Stupid rule and illegal.

No you don't get it.
If a player isn't good enough, get another player who IS good enough.
If you look back 10 or 15 years ago, EPL squads were made up of mostly Englishmen. Now they're made up of all kinds of different people, from different countries.
Don't you see WHY they are doing this?
Think about the REASON why they are implementing this rule.
When Arsenal plays Milan in CL, there should be a feeling of "this is an English club against an Italian club". If none of the Arsenal players are English and none of the Milan players are Italian, you LOSE THIS FEELING and it takes away from the culture of the game.
Globalization is good for football, but if it goes to far you lose a lot of the beautiful tradition that goes with it.
Another consequence of this rule is that it will somewhat limit BIG teams (ie. Chelsea) from going out and buying players. They will be forced (somewhat) to bring players up through their own youth systems. How is this a BAD thing??? It's a great move for football.
If all the teams are playing by the same rules, it's hardly unfair.
And think about it, it's only 8 out of 25 players--one third. That's not an unreasonable rule.
I don't know about you guys, but I like it when my club has homegrown players. And I'm talking about every sport, not only football. Please tell me, what is wrong with having a few players from your own town, city, country???

Define homegrown player?

The nationality of the player is irrelevant as this has been the way around which they have circumvented EU freedom of movement rules. Yet here is UEFA contradicting themselves again.

Lampard, Bridge, Johnson and Cole even before looking at Terry, Pidgeley, Huth, Duff, Parker, Watt and Forssell should all qualify because of the freedom the EU allows within the rules.

Master Kush.
Players like Jean Carlos are ALREADY BEING SCOUTED AT A YOUNG AGE.
Recruiting young players is already a VERY competitive practice. I can't see it getting any worse.
The rule is not asking a lot.
Most teams ALREADY have a few players on their squad that were brought up in their youth academies. So it's not a problem at all for the majority of clubs. And for the few that don't have enough young players from their youth academy... well, they should. And making them improve (SLIGHTLY) their youth academy scouting is NOT a bad thing. It will force clubs like Real Madrid, Chelsea, Arsenal etc. to make sure their youth scouting remains strong and that they don't solve all their problems with MONEY. It will keep the game more competitive for the smaller teams and will help to maintain some feeling of nationalism and pride towards home-grown talent.

Remember guys, this is NOT a RADICAL change.
It is a SLIGHT change that will not really even effect MOST clubs.

I think it is a 100% good move by UEFA. Congratulations to UEFA.

Good job UEFA. Now you will see big teams poaching local young talent from other teams. I'm sure that will level the playing field.
