Like I said earlier, he missed the ball and tried to pull out... there was no intention to hurt anyone. With the first incident, he still didn't intend to hurt anyone, it definitely deserved a yellow card, but there was no direct intent to injure anyone.
The second challenge, in a smaller game, would have deserved a yellow card because it was careless, but because of it's hype, the referee, if he were good, would have pulled Del Horno aside, had a word with him, calmed him down, because he should have been on a yellow already, and let the game go on. But no, no yellow for the first challenge, and then a straight red, for a little bump... :kader:

I'd still like to know why the ref tolerated Puyol's thuggery. He gave him one yellow and let the rest of his dirty play go unpunished. I would not call that consistant refereeing.
One set of rules for Chelsea and one set of rules for the darlings of UEFA it seems. I'll give the ref the benefit of the doubt and just say he was useless. UEFA said he was one of their top referees.
I also didn't like the way that 9 Barca players surrounded the ref whining either, and then applauding the ref when he carded Del Horno.Very sporting i must say.
Two seasons ago, UEFA said that surrounding the ref would not be tolerated. So will UEFA have anything to say about that?........Probably not.

this is takin us nowhere...but in the first situation, saying he had no intention to hurt...i mean, obviously the man wasn't trying to kill someone, but this is football, it isn't k-1..

You can see him go in, whiff the ball and then raise his hands and pull back his legs as he collides. If it were half as malicious as people are claiming it was, then he wouldve just gone full steam, because he couldve run someone Messi's size over.

well, maybe del horno had to do that because messi jumped, i don't know. there are lots of maybes and ifs, i think we're "overanalysing" it. it's impossible to know the truth, everything we say about what del horno did are only suppositions. we have different views on his movement.

just to make it clear, i'm not discussing the reason the referee gave the red. i'm only saying i would do the same, even if my reason is different. for me, del horno deserved it.

i agree about the acting.

As was Chelsea's refusal to kick the ball out when Motta was injured on the pitch ;)

Ok, TrueBlueBalla... let's just stick to this: for you, Barcelona didn't prove anything, bcoz they were playing against a 10-men Chelsea, and they were a bit lost for some periods of the game // For me, Barcelona have proved previously, and proved once again in that game, that they're the best team around... period! :ewan:

As for Del Horno's red card, the referee saw the video, and he was then convinced that his decision was right! I also saw the video, time and time again.... but that's not the point... the point is that, Del Horno made the ugliest challenge of the game, he could've easily broke Messi's leg... and he went unpunished... yes, Puyol did a lot of thuggery during the game, but hey.... that challenge from Del Horno was even worst than the sum of all of the Puyol's... so... well deserved red card! :)

EDIT: Did i mentioned that Messi owned half of the Chelsea team?!

Too much heat around this match, i guess it would be better for Ronaldinho and Messi not play the next match, because it would seem that they will take turns to kick them.(:/)

Oh sure, the ref would admit he was wrong if that was the case would he?....dont be so silly Luis.

Its now consigned to the dustbin of history anyway.I think the subject has burnt itself out and there really is nothing of interest left to say about it.

Barca fans are right and Chelsea fans are right. This goes nowhere and it is now just boring. Lets just leave this until after the second leg, and then when Barca have been eliminated, we will see what you have to say about it then O wise one. We are Barcas bogie team and we will always be Barca's nemisis.
I wouldn't be surprised if UEFA bring Frisk out of retirement for the return game. Thats how warped this whole sorry saga has become.

EDIT: Did i mentioned that Messi owned half of the Chelsea team?!

There is no such thing as five and a half players mate, thats just not possible, sorry............ :ewan:

But you saw Messi owning most of Chelsea defenders (plus Robben), didn't you?! So you got my point.... that's what counts.... :funny:

At least i agree with you in one thing: this is gettin' boring...
