Don't get me wrong, Titi cheated here. I love him to death, but he cheated Ireland. But the match shouldn't be replayed because it opens a can of worms.
Look at Manchester United 2, Arsenal 1 from earlier this season. Using the standard that would be set forth by giving Ireland a replay, Arsenal has to get one too. It's been determined by anyone not loyal to Man Utd or the English National Team that the Boy Wonder® went over before Almunia got to him and won a penalty. He cheated. He cheated Arsenal out of three points, Arsenal have a legit gripe here. But it can go futher, Arsenal were denied two stonewall penalties within two seconds of the other. The first was when Fletcher scythed down Arshavin in the box, the second comes from Fletcher's follow through on the tackle during which time he handled the ball in the area. Both of which Arsenal could argue deserved a penalty, and possibly a yellow card for each which would've seen United reduced to ten men.
And to be fair, Celtic could get a replay for Eduardo's dive in the Champions League.
Do Trinidad and Tobago, a much smaller "David" than Ireland surely, deserve a replay from when Crouch used Sancho's hair as a rope in the 2006 World Cup?
There are far too many incidents. No, not every one of them determines the final place in the World Cup, but if United pip Arsenal to the title by one or two points, do you not think Arsenal will look back at those incidents and ask what if?
You just can't go forth with it. Ireland got screwed, Henry ruined his reputation. It's over.
I feel bad for the Irish, honest I do. But I think most people are piling on France because they're France, most of these people don't give a **** about Eire, they just hate France, or see France as a proxy for Arsenal or Barca given the Henry connection. I saw someone blame Wenger on another site for Heaven's sake!
You know who the most honest superstar in football is? It's Freddie Ljungberg. Stop looking elsewhere.
