You're the one always trying to convince us that Deco is not a great player.

Guess what.He is.He's f*cking awesome. It doesn't show because he's sacrificed for defensive purposes. That's why Xavi stands out so much.He gets all the attacking roles that Deco doesn't.
I don't even want to think what would happen if Deco wasn't in Barca.

:rockman: Deco

If you don't appreciate him, it's your problem.

Ronnie can score just as well as Shevchenko and create goalscoring opportunities infinitesimally better than him to boot......

Anyway, he should've been handed this award the second he set foot in France....C'mon, lets get serious here for a moment people, he's the closest thing to Maradona our generation will ever see.

ah please....none of this nonsense that dinho is so much better than anyone else...thats such a joke....great player though. and who cares if hes the closest to maradona....hes not maradona...and just cause dinho can dribble well doesnt warrent any type of maradona talk...plus that has no bearing on how henry or shevchenko deserves the award...you guys need to get serious.

Dude, that's a point in his favour, not against!!! He's great at CAM, as it has been proved in the past seasons, by leading his team into European glory; not only that, he is also a good CDM.
Frank has 3 great players in Xavi, Deco and Ronaldinho; he obviously wants to play all of them, so he cleverly adjusts the most versatile to a position he'd still be good at. And like I said above, Deco is a team guy, he doesn't mind to be away from the spotlight if it means his team will win. That's why he gets my respect, that's why he's the best of the 3.

It surprises me to see how many kids here don't realize the importance of being a solid, all-around player, instead focusing on who can dribble better...
Still a lot to learn...

Finally, to those who accuse us of being biased towards portuguese players, let me remind you that:
a) Yes, I'm a bit biased.
b) That doesn't mean Deco shouldn't get the award. He should. He was the best player last season.
c) He might have portuguese citizenship, but he is BRAZILIAN.
d) Naturally we focus more on players from our Superliga because all of us watch them play every week. That is why we talked about a kid who had absolutely magical feet way before he moved to ManU; that's why we praised Ricardo Carvalho when to some he was another Materazzi (lol).

and we're saying these awards SHOULD not be based on individual skill alone because Zidane would win it every year till he retires and so would Maradona at the time he played.

Havelange hates Maradona, and Blatter has inherited this. He would never win one.

Blatter wanted to convice all of us that Di Stefano was a better player than Maradona (at the History Best Player Award that Pele won, Maradona came second) WTF!!?? :gavin:

What the hell? There shouldn't even be any doubt! Ronaldinho for sure! He's got it all, pace, dribbling, clinical finishing, long range shooting, free kicks, great passing come on now...

....how many times do I have to repeat this award should not be based on skill alone but on form and achievements throughout a season.

That applies to Ronaldinho as well. I distinctly remember him carrying Barcelona on his back for most of last season as well as this season, the same way Shevchenko does for Milan.

this season... not really, apart from that amazing goal against Milan, Ronaldinho has been having a very quiet start of season, largely outshoned by Xavi so far.

Di Stefano is the most underrated player ever in my opinion.

I know he was great, he is for sure the greatest Argentinian players excluding Marandona and Kempes, but... he's no way better than Maradona (And I don't like Diego very much, but I must assume he was the best of our country)

Apart from that, Di Stefano was a traitor that helped Spain to have a NT centered on non Spanish players that had already played for his country, like the greatest of all, Ferenc Puskas (H)

well the amount of responsibility has been shared around more, and the tactics have changed somewhat with the team no longer totally rotating around him on the offence.

im just gonna make a point here, this award has nothing to do with deco, maradona, di stefano, etc....

so of the 3 players mentioned.......henry:rolleyes: shevchenko and ronaldinho

who should win it?

in my opinion it should go to either sheva or ronaldinho, of the 3, those 2 deserve it most...im leaning a bit towards sheva but it's really close when it comes to these two.......so, not bringing up deco, or any other player.......of the 3 players mentioned...who deserves the award?

OK

Shevchenko. Not only because he did many goals, or great one, but because he is deserving this award since he played for Dinamo Kyiv.
Ronaldinho could be the best player now, but if we see the list of the awarded players, we realized that they had the awards one or two years later than when he truly deserved, except some cases like Baggio. So Ronaldinho, wait one or two years, Sheva is deserving this since long time ago.

Henry? pfff, I prefer almost any of the 46 that were eliminated on the previous stage
