Let's be totally honest here. The majority of serious complaints about FIFA 2003 relate to the gameplay. Ignoring the requests for the Nigerian fifth division and for each player to have individually colored laces and controllable fingernail lengths, EA should concentrate on making the gameplay better.

There are several reasons however why this won't happen and FIFA 2004 will be the same gameplay as FIFA 2003.

(1) If EA do (and I doubt this hugely whatever the moderators may try and tell you) read these forums they will see that most of the posts are related to editing and adding leagues, uniforms etc. so they will get the impression that gameplay is unimportant as posts complaining about poor gameplay seem reduced to a few individuals. EA's assumption from the FIFA 2003 and FIFA 2004 forums will be that the gameplay is not in need of changing but improving graphics once again is the major issue.
(2) EA said they rewrote the gameplay engine for FIFA 2003 so the chances of them rewriting it again are remote.
(3) EA do not understand what makes a good soccer game. In the official interviews the EA rep said that FIFA 2003 was a better game than PES which as everybody who has played both games knows is the biggest joke possible. You can therefore see that EA have no idea when it comes to what is good and what is poor gameplay. If they can't conceive (or beta test it seems) what makes good gameplay then there is no chance of improvement.
(4) EA do not give people what they want. Nobody asked for the removal of:
- the creation center
- the training mode
- the ability to be able to delete individual saved leagues etc.
- the ability to header freely
- deeper formations and tactics
but what happened? They removed these things.
(5) The game is getting more and more scripted so how much more scripted do you think FIFA 2004 will be? Whereas Konami aim for total player control, EA are clearly doing the opposite. FIFA 2004 will be a game to watch, not to play.

If you genuinely think there is any hope that EA will take any notice of anything written on this forum then y'all are dillusional. Like I said, if they did browse these forums they would just see that the majority of people just want more leagues and graphical amendments not an improved gameplay experience. Especially whenever Nick Clubman or others like myself criticize the gameplay we get shot down in flames. EA will see that y'all happy with the non-heading, automated clearances etc. because y'all defend these things and bash us for criticising them.

Two things to do:
- either petition Konami (who do listen) to release PES3 on the PC
- buy a PS2 and play WE6

Very true, EA won't learn but we ainb't exactly (well not me) giving the right message to Ea at the moment, basically we're telling them we like graphics over gameplay!!!

LOL, so true Tristan... the only people still playing fifa are the guys that are editing the the kits so Di Canio's chest hair shows, or so that Beckhams face reflects the lastest game they saw... Its pathetic.. the game sucks...and the reasons the SoccerGaming site is still being visited is #1 All the PC fifa players keep making stupid little additions to a still horrible game, #2 all of us in the know, that play any soccer game by Konami we can get our hands on.. Any of the fifa players out there not realizing this are in denial.. that game blows... take away that pc, and the ability to put stitches above Beckhams eye, and what do you have.. a still horrible game. Wow you can make the WHHHHHHHHOOOOLLLLE Mexican League... hmm well thats great, whats the difference? None of those teams plays any better or any worse then any other team in the game... Why bother editing it...

EA will hopefully start understanding this.. out side of the still blind PC fifa players they are losing the fight to Konami.. better start putting out a good product... or else.. I product that doesnt have massively scripted gameplay, a product that has players with more then 7 stats and a rating of 7 max on each of those stats (HOW THE HELL CAN YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN PLAYERS IF THERE IS ONLY 1-7 rating in only 7 STATS!!!!), And maybe this year they may want to game test it so the dont put a game on the self where you cant even head the ball unless it is scripted so... a game where the goal keeper should have crash helmet and adult supervision at all times when he is out of his wheel chair, he acts so retarded....(hmmm a long pass going to a foward about 30 meters out, covered by 2 defenders.. I should charge as far as I can, and then fall down AFTER the ball goes past me!!) Such rubbish.. its so funny, it was a big improvement from 2002.. but still such crap... that it is unbeleivable a huge company like EA would even let it out their door. LOL well that felt good, now for my 2nd cup of coffee of the day! peace all.

i dont think ea realises how football works and how bad players differ from mediore players or average players or from good players or from excellent players. i also think that when people post and talk about improving gameplay need to be more specific. ea could take that the wrong way and make defenders super hard all the time. also when we say we want to see the difference between team and player it doesnt mean make the top team all the same and all the lesser teams the same at a lower level

Gameplay in football games consist of a number of areas

Tactics- a variety of basic formations which are further diversed by positioning, attacking mentality, defending mentality, man mark/zone/covering.

player attributes- should have stats in each of the above plus other stats like long pass ac short pass acc, reaction dribbling etc. make these skills recognisable inside the game. (in pro evo u know who zidane is by the way he plays or rui costa or rivaldo) also should consist of right foot strength and left foot strength individually. research all of the players in terms of ability COME ON NOW DONT BE LAZY AND SPEND THE SAME TIME ON PLAYER ABILITY AS U DO ON APPEARANCE. goalkeepers seem to be all the same, good goalies know whhen to press strikers or come for a cross, or are good shot stoppers with strong hands.

animation/flowing game/freedom- improve the overall feel of the game. Widen the variety of animation this means - first touch, passing ( depending on right footed or left), shooting animation ( outside,power shot, pass shot, curler, toed shot, not all shot go straight in the goal some are deflected depeneding on power), headed shots (glanced header, bullet header, flicked header depending on strength of opponent or if goalie come out and clatters you timing and all that.) free kicks not all accurate free kicks go in the goal the thing about where you want to kick the ball is good but you should be able to have a power guage. some free kick takers are better than other. some first time shots are not accurate only the top players can shoot accuractely first time. also put in a number of different tackles (two foot, slide forward, curled slide, snatch , interceptions, elbows and scissor attack)

long balls and through ball beyond the defence need to be better recieved by the attackers and not stopping but carry on towards goal

think ea think. with all the licenses you can get you have the potential to be better than pro evo if you improve the gameplay in all areas concievable. we are being tough on you because we care

ps put copa libartos in. and the champions league theme simply electrifying and team line ups and the flag in the centre circle. champions league is different from domestic

Don`t ask EA to improve the gameplay cos` it won`t happen. Ask them to improve graphics then surely they`ll give us gameplay, cos` they don`t give what people want. I`ve been asking for better gameplay in FIFA 2003 wishlist, instead of giving it they give us individual eye colour ( WTF ???? ), so boys learn something, EA always do things the other way around. Their so called "geniusity" somehow made their brains upside down . . .

Has already been done in the WE/PES series.

EA got nothing to back up/denfend their horrendic gameplay.

But they do have the guts....
The guts to say, FIFA2003 plays better football than WE/PES.

At this point, for EA, its probably the best to just hand over the entire 'soccer' department to Konami.

Japanese translation!

Maybe our gripes would be better being translated into Japanese and putting towards EA to drive the point home. If we pretend we're from Konami and give them some crap maybe they'll become so infuriated they'll respond with the best game ever. So, what you need to do is phone EA, and tell them random lines from the following list in a Japanese accent. If nothing else you can see whether you can keep a straight face!

- You EA people make pooh on stick game. More bothered about lovely brown pooh color than practicality of stick. People no want perfectly brown pooh. Pooh fall off stick after while and you left with stick. Stick must be most good as that is what you are left with for long time.

- Why no header for you game? You must have CPU player prod human player bottom with thumb to make player jump in air for ball. That no good. Must be able to prod own bum and jump when alone. Header at corner too weak. It like ball bouncing off throat and not going very far!

- Why my goalkeeper like stupid monkey in FIFA 2003? He is more searching for banana than ball. He run out to greet CPU player asking for banana then forget he is looking for ball. Stupid monkey. Why monkey make ball bounce off him too fast? Ball travel back in time like "Back To The Future" it go so fast!

- You must write Manga comic story line. You so good at scripted play you must have many story to tell world. My defender ignore me and make me sad. He run off away from man with ball and then do realize him mistake and run back too late. He be chasing from too far after you make him run like scared girl from ghost. He also knock ball away when me not asking him. He is disobedient to me and he is bad player for this. Why you make him do this to me?

- When me think of flying plane with missile on it I am thinking they let me practice first. Otherwise me crash into own house like fool or monkey pilot and make parents mad. You must be training in soccer too with player to make good and familiar with legs. No training mean no goodness for long time and no experiment. This mean frustration like parents at house with fighter jet in the side of it.

- I not wanting collection of every game I am playing in world ever. Am wanting to delete a saved file but bad game making me keep forever. I now scroll down to file 3,247 to play latest league. Unfortunately it got same name as other 863 game I play and me can't see which I am to play! Many games are previous dead like chicken run over by big thing so I am wanting no more. You make me keep like scar on face from angry snake.

- Konami are being hero to me. You EA make clown face and not be funny. Konami make me play soccer good and smile like happy all over. You EA make me want to fly the plane with missile without training to end misery in life with game. Why you treat me so bad. I buy you game every year and you make me fool for spending money like monkey with checkbook in fruit store. Bad on you EA. I asking for rice and you giving me mouse pooh. I no more buy you or play you until you make game like frog turning into prince. I actually boy so wanting princess instead but you must be understand that.

imagine a game with fifa 2003 graphics and detail with pro evo gameplay and tactical awareness. u got the picture.......................................... that will never happen unless they real football fans and pros ideas on what they need to do. they need to do a lot, and i expect that they would have started by now if they r to get up to even 50% of konamis gameplay. i mean even iss pro evolution on the ps is has better gameplay than fifa 2003.

i mean lets face it the reason why we r not giving up on fifa completely is because of the potential it has. with all the leagues, stadia, licences etc
