yup yup.. i honestly think that whoever won this tie would win it all.. so its sporting..

what is this miss by dyer that soccernet is tlaking about that could've been so crucial?!?

wow, I'm still shocked. I have to eat my own words here cause' I honestly didn't think Sporting had it in them, especially after going down 0-1. They did come back in great fashion and fully deserved to go through.

...and even more amazing is the fact that they were without their goal-machine Liedson!

AZ vs. Sporting is gonna be a kick-ass draw..

Tell that to the fans of clubs who would have no chance of competing in the Champons League. There are enough good teams in europe to suppourt the UEFA Cup

Great point, bro. It was a very thoughtless and insensitive comment on my part that I made in that post as you've clearly pointed out. It sounded good in my head at the time and I just went along with it without not even having really paid much attention to this year's competition, you know? I have the luxury of supporting two clubs who are an almost automatic shoo-in for the UCL year in and year out. I didn't give much thought or consideration to the smaller clubs who see the UEFA Cup as their UCL cup and also use it as a means of generating funds and raising their stature in the European soccer scene. I totally forgot that the little guy has gotta have his share of the milk aswell.

Fully deserved victory for Sporting, they were clearly the better team over the two hands!
Moutinho really is proving game after game that he is a hot prospect for the future (CM(H)). Great stuff for Portugal..

I hope Sporting can get the Cup, cheers for them..damn how I miss the last two seasons :(

My dad was ecstatic today! He's a huge Sporting fan. And Real Madrid may be my favorite team, but I got Sporting in my blood. I really hope they win it at home. My dad will go absolutely nuts!

For those who didn't believe in SCP win. Scp > Newcastle( altough the are a great team). Go see the highlights of the game. Oh, and watch some Superliga matches, like...Boavista - Sporting.

Congrats to my Sporting. He deserved it. 3 finals left.

Well, I have to disagree. Newcastle is clearly a good team, but in no way are they great.

In fact, this UEFA Cup has few (if any) really great teams... I don't want to take anything from Sporting, because along with CSKA I think they've clearly been the best teams in this competition, but since CL started having so many top teams, the quality of UEFA cup has decreased a lot. It's still an important cup and with prestige, but anyone knows that the top teams from Europe aren't in it but in CL instead.

If Newcastle had scored a second when they were 1-0 up I think the result would have been very different last night, but all credit to Sporting for coming back and winning so well. I can see them making it to the final, but AZ Alkmaar will be a very tough team to beat. ;)

CSKA Moscow - Sporting Lisbon Final..!?

What's with everyone writing off Parma? They have only alllowed 1 goal in the knockout stage despite starting every game with a weakened squad and most games without their superstar goalie (Sebastien Frey) and super striker (Gilardino). If Parma starts their strong 11 against Moskva, they better look out.

Moscow win comfortably at home without conceding. So, as long as the first leg isn't damaging for them, I can't see Parma doing much in Russia.

I don't know...I don't like the football the italians play (especially Ac Milan and Parma), but I can't deny that it results. Parma made some solid defending against Austria Viena. Has some key players, like Gilardino. CSKA also shows some great defending (Benfica and Auxerre were owned IMO), and a some quality players in the front...like Vagner Love or Daniel Carvalho. I think it will be a very defensive semi-final. But my vote goes to CSKA.

I also hope to see Sporting in the final...but it is not going to be easy...

CSKA didn't owned Benfica... but they are very strong at home. Play at home in the 1st leg is good for them because they could get a good advantage in the 1st leg like against Benfica and Auxerre.

We apologize for keeping the yellow too long

I look at the UEFA Cup final four and I cannot understand how Celtic AND Rangers aren' t able to make it that stage of THAT tournament. The teams in the semis are teams that I would think Celtic and Rangers would be able to walk over. (C)

Celtic didn't participated in this year UEFA Cup. and Rangers passed Maritimo only in the penalties how can they walk over Sporting? They seemed very weak to me.
