Incredible!
I'm also quite disappointed with Trap. But I mantain that it isn't mainly his fault and that sacking him wouldn't be a solution at this moment, although I hope he doesn't renew. We lack quality in the squad and with the injuries in key players, things are even worse. Still, many players need to show more effort, attitude and mental strenght.
I also bet that Maxi López won't come, at least for now. Not a single signing for now, when they promised several. This is one of the main things that bothers me... Why try to illude the fans and supporters? If we really "don't have a euro to spend on signings", as Veiga said, why say things like: "we will greatly strenghten our squad in the winter pause" or "people's jaws will drop of surprise when they see our signings"???
The TRUTH, that's what we need to hear. I know this isn't the kind of stuff that motivates the supporters and makes them support the president and the board, but that's what should be said. I prefer that to populist empty phrases, only to throw sand into people's eyes. We can't live in an illusion! If for our financial health we can't go making quality signings (because those, of really GOOD players cost a lot of money, it's the sad truth), then ok. Just have the courage to assume that this is our main priority and that we can't promise titles for now.
Just say: "Look, we can't strenghten the team as we would like, so the only thing we can promise is hard-work from our team, honouring the club and trying to fight for the title, but knowing that we aren't in the condition of promising nothing more at the moment, until we finally have our financial consolidation."
Then, bet on young players, on cheap but promising players from the Portuguese market and that's it. I wouldn't even surprise me if some of them were quite better than many that we signed in the last 10 years, that costed far more and were ****ty.
To me, this isn't "small-thinking". It's not lack of ambition! It's being realistic and with that, if your work and attitude is also good, I believe you have more chances of suceeding.
OR
If we have the conditions to have all those great players and all that success they promise, then it's more than about time you show it. Vain promises are the worst thing...
Sorry for this long rant, I just had to express my ideas on this. We need honesty, seriousness, humbleness, hard-work and stability, more than anything else. If these values and this spirit is embodied by the president and the rest of the board, by the coach and its staff, by the players, then certainly better days will come and we have actually a chance of winning something.
