Everson is clearly in pitiful shape yet.
He showed some pretty nice touches and that he's clever when dealing with some situations like backheel passes and such.
Hopefully he'll get better and partner Petit in the midfield... I hate P. Almeida

I would love to see Manuel Fernandes with Petit..
He's awesome!!! I prefer him over anyone in Benfica midfield...
He defends very well... and attack even better.. Amazing second half he made today... Just hope he can play more than last season..

Geez, your imagination is small or what. Actually, you didn't have to use your imagination at all (Deco, Maniche, etc...)
If he indeed spends a whole year on the bench I won't be surprised if Benfica dismisses this guy, same as they did with Ednilson, for example. And doesn anyone here questions is abbility?

Benfica didn't dismissed Ednilson, he's on loan at Gil Vicente... and i think the cases are different. Fernandes is a solid talent for the future and Ednilson apart from the second part of the season 00/01, never showed anything special IMO.
off course Benfica will not dismiss Fernandes, the worst that we can do is sell him to a foreign club but even that i highly doubt.
(yes my imagination i think it's pretty good but never reached that level of madness)

Fernandes is still young... 18? And he can't be "upset" for being at the bench... He, and all the Benfiquistas knows that he is the future of Benfica midfield... and that if he continue playing like that he will be a star! And maybe called to the Portuguese NT...
But, like i said before... he's still young... And it's completely normal being at the bench at his age... and when playing at the start eleven give all to the team, and prove that he deserve a place in the team... I don't think Trap don't like him... "pelo contrário"... I think he like him a lot.. he talk very nice things about him in the pre-season at Suiça... maybe he just don't want to put him at the start eleven so many times, like many coaches do... like Fergie with Ronaldo... Do you think that MANU fans were not disapointed when Fergie put Flethcer instead of Ronaldo...
And Trap is a coach that for what we are seeing... he will play with a more defensive tactic... so maybe, that's the reason to put two "pitbulls" in the picth like Petit and Almeida, instead of Fernandes...
IMO, Fernandes should start, because he's better to our eyes, plays better football... but maybe Benfica wouldn't have the consistence at defense like we're having in this pre-season..
So i say, give time to time...

Now we don't have Vale de Azevedo has a president... We have Luís Filipe Vieira... that IMO is the right man to Benfica, and is doing a great job.

.Didn't show anything special? The first time I saw Ednilson play was in a Roma game. There was this guy playing great in the midfield, and I was amazed when they said he was just 16! I was even more amazed when they said he was portuguese. Unfortunately, for players this young to be in top teams can do them more damage than anything. They need playing time, a lot of it, to develop, to gain solid experience... If they don't, usually turn out to be like Hugo Leal, Postiga, Viana, etc.
LeBron James is just a kid out of high-school and nobody would expect anything from him except to be a starter on his team. It's all a matter of how good you are.
Ronaldo's case is different. He was adjusting to a whole new country, whose language he didn't speak, a new league, new team-mates, new playing style, etc. He definitely needed time to adapt, and once he did SAF used him a lot, even when coming off the bench.
Like Ednilson was benched and then released, I don't see how the same scenario is that far off for Fernandes (in case he is also benched for most of the season). Anyway, this is one of those 'only-time-will-tell' kind of situations...
Ednilson didn't even got benched in Guimarães... Camacho, Jorge Jesus, Inacio, Jesualdo Ferreira, 4 coaches that didn't bet on him, 4 not 1 or 2... and he wasn't released.
and don't forget that Benfica wants to renew Fernandes's contract... so we renew with him and release him?

So what? The season hasn't even begun, and all we know is that Trap isn't using him with his usual starters. Like I said, lets wait until the end of the season and we'll continue this chat. Don't worry I'll remind you.
