Wow. If he keeps playing like that, he won't be at Benfica for too much longer. One of the big European teams will probably buy him and that's good for the NT. He sounds like he will eventually replace Costinha.

I also think Benfica won't hold his talent much more. But I don't think he's a replacement for Costinha (it would great due to Costinha getting near the 30's), because I think he's a box-to-box player and not a DM. He has a "Maniche" with different style, but acheiving the same effectiveness(sp?) already.
Just my 2 cents...

Just a note about 3 players:

1) Pedro Mendes should definitely get a chance. I believe every team needs a guy like him (and how club misses Mendes...), someone that can control effectively the pace of the game, even when coming from the bench.

2) Nelson, Boavista's ace sideback, has so much potential that it's a pitty he isn't getting called up already!
Scolari should really start working a bit more and not just going after the already-acclaimed-by-the-media type of players. This was probably his most risky call-up, but still left the kid behind...
He'll be great, you've heard it here first. ;)

3) Manuel Fernandes... There isn't a single Portista who doesn't recognize his superb skills and talent. That is saying a lot already.
I remember arguing with some Benfiquistas in the pre-season (when he wasn't being called by Trap) about how good he was and how Porto would get him in the end of the season if he din't make it to Benfica's first team.
Honestly, Porto should sell their entire Samba school - all 80-something of them - and buy this kid.

I see 2 options:

1- Offer an amount of money Benfica couldn't refuse (and we all know how well you're NOT doing in terms of money). This would probably work well for both clubs.

2- Benfica selling him to one of those obscure MSI type of anonymous groups that would eventually place him for 6 months somewhere, just to be shipped back to Porto.

Both unlikely, but not impossible.

1- It's so impossible Benfica accept deals with Porto than Porto offers any money to Benfica.

2- We could sell him to MSI yes, but this kind of deals always have that contract clauses that restricts the player from play in a rival, Benfica would "salvaguardar" their interests like in Tiago deal. and i highly doubt that Fernandes will accept to play in Porto. to play in Portugal it's better stay in Benfica where he is a "home" player. To leave Portugal only to a big league like EPL or La Liga.

Manuel Fernandes should work himself as a DM in the future, like Mourinho suggested recently. But also, if he worked himself as an AM, he would rock aswell! Fernandes can be an all-around midfielder, like Rochemback is.

No doubt the kid is a rare jewel, but he has to develop correctly. And Trapattoni has tought him very important stuff since both started working together.

Like you'd be surprised to see a good player switching from Benfica to Porto?

You can always turn around those clauses (traditionally by paying a penalty fee). There's one reason why Tiago isn't in Porto right now, and that is this one: CHEL$$$$EA.
About Fernandes not wanting to move because his home is Benfica, I'm glad you believe in Santa. The only thing players are loyal to nowadays is money. I have no illusions on that, no matter what the player or club we're talking about.

I think it's you that believe in Santa, thinking that he will play in Porto... it would be good wouldn't it?

Like if he would change Benfica for Porto... he will only leave to a biggest club that deserves his football and if he leaves now. he only has 19 years old.

wouldn't the benfica schools supposed to suck?

WHAT?
He is so bad, he demonstrate it @ the World-Cup 2002 and @ the Euro04, too! In big tournaments he is nothing!
I think Nuno Gomes must play from the beginning...I can't see this slow and lazy player...

World Cup 2002? Oh yeah, he sucked, he only scored an hat trick and was only Portugal's best scorer...
In Euro 2004 he didn't do well, happens to the best!
He's far better than Nuno Gomes, he scores more goals than him every season, he scored more goals for the NT than him, and currently has far more goals in the qualifiers then him...
Pauleta is a world class striker, Gomes isn't...

:p I've said it many times, hehe... I think he's Boavista's biggest young star this season, he surprises me every time...

But i think he's from Cabo Verde and not portuguese...

I'm not one of the those that think this kid is superb, far away from that, but if for any reason he changes to Porto don't u think he would move to a bigger club? (H)

Why do I think I'm chatting with a 12 year-old every time I read a post from you? Where did I say that he will play in Porto? Where did I even *emply* that he will play in Porto? What part of 'Both unlikely, but not impossible' did you not understand?

Dude, putting words in others' mouths when you got nothing to say is basic and dishonest, especially when it's written in a board where everybody can check back; but what is really sad is seeing you convinced you'd get away with it.

Wasn't your 'Chelsea was leader of the EPL without Robben...' blunder and subsequent ridicularization by everyone else enough for this week already?

Manuel Fernandes is a good player, but it's not as if we need him to win anything, so you can drop the childish 'would be good wouldn't it?' attitude.

wasn't you that was predicting in the beginning of the season that he will not renew his contract and will go to Porto? and i didn't put anything in your mouth, it was you that start saying that Porto must buy him wasn't it? you started the subject not me
