I also think Benfica won't hold his talent much more. But I don't think he's a replacement for Costinha (it would great due to Costinha getting near the 30's), because I think he's a box-to-box player and not a DM. He has a "Maniche" with different style, but acheiving the same effectiveness(sp?) already.Originally posted by Nuno79
Wow. If he keeps playing like that, he won't be at Benfica for too much longer. One of the big European teams will probably buy him and that's good for the NT. He sounds like he will eventually replace Costinha.

u know who should have been called up, Pedro Mendes, now he's a quality DM, and playing great in England

Honestly, Porto should sell their entire Samba school - all 80-something of them - and buy this kid.

do you think that we would sell him to Porto?

I see 2 options:
1- Offer an amount of money Benfica couldn't refuse (and we all know how well you're NOT doing in terms of money). This would probably work well for both clubs.
2- Benfica selling him to one of those obscure MSI type of anonymous groups that would eventually place him for 6 months somewhere, just to be shipped back to Porto.
Both unlikely, but not impossible.

2- We could sell him to MSI yes, but this kind of deals always have that contract clauses that restricts the player from play in a rival, Benfica would "salvaguardar" their interests like in Tiago deal. and i highly doubt that Fernandes will accept to play in Porto. to play in Portugal it's better stay in Benfica where he is a "home" player. To leave Portugal only to a big league like EPL or La Liga.

And Pauleta is Portugal's best striker?!?!?!?!?
WHAT?
He is so bad, he demonstrate it @ the World-Cup 2002 and @ the Euro04, too! In big tournaments he is nothing!
I think Nuno Gomes must play from the beginning...I can't see this slow and lazy player...

2) Nelson, Boavista's ace sideback, has so much potential that it's a pitty he isn't getting called up already!
Scolari should really start working a bit more and not just going after the already-acclaimed-by-the-media type of players. This was probably his most risky call-up, but still left the kid behind...
He'll be great, you've heard it here first.

I think it's you that believe in Santa, thinking that he will play in Porto... it would be good wouldn't it?
Like if he would change Benfica for Porto... he will only leave to a biggest club that deserves his football and if he leaves now. he only has 19 years old.
wouldn't the benfica schools supposed to suck?

I'm not one of the those that think this kid is superb, far away from that, but if for any reason he changes to Porto don't u think he would move to a bigger club?

Why do I think I'm chatting with a 12 year-old every time I read a post from you? Where did I say that he will play in Porto? Where did I even *emply* that he will play in Porto? What part of 'Both unlikely, but not impossible' did you not understand?
Dude, putting words in others' mouths when you got nothing to say is basic and dishonest, especially when it's written in a board where everybody can check back; but what is really sad is seeing you convinced you'd get away with it.
Wasn't your 'Chelsea was leader of the EPL without Robben...' blunder and subsequent ridicularization by everyone else enough for this week already?
Manuel Fernandes is a good player, but it's not as if we need him to win anything, so you can drop the childish 'would be good wouldn't it?' attitude.
