Couto is the captain, the team had no leadership and especially the defence with him gone. And even Scolari didn't have the balls to drop him from the team. I think it's almost a crime to leave Carvalho in the bench. He'll be dropped after the Euro 2004 for sure.


Maybe Baia said something to a member of the federation or something.... remember that Agostinho Oliveira didn't call him up either.

Anyway I didn't see any porto fans complaining when Ricardo did a brilliant qualifying stage for the WC 2002 and then was replaced for Baia who was just fresh recovered from a severe injury... not that I'm defending Ricardo...

I'm very sad, that Scolari don't call Baía for the Euro!
He is a great Keeper!

And Meira? where is Meira? He played a big Season!

And another is Boa Morte!! He played a big Season, too!

Beto played very bad in the last Games... and Tiago, too!

and what I can't understand is that Rui Jorge can play, and don't get blocked for the Euro! Kennedy was blocked, in the World Cup 2002! Madail is a big shame!!!
I hate Rui Jorge...he is arrogant... every time he discuss with the Referees!

But finally Scolari called Maniche! He is a great center!

Now let us see what will happen! I hope that Portugal can make a excellent Euro!

Maybe that's because you have selected memory (probably just to prove your points).
Every time I talked about Baía on Scolari's era I said something like: 'Ricardo should have been the man 2 years ago, but we're bound to make the same mistake by leaving our best current keeper on the bench/not called up'...


About the squad, I am okay with it. I don't like Beto and Postiga had an off year. Other than that it's good, as long as Rui Costa isn't the starter. Deco is getting better and better, game after game. He should be our pick.

What about Ricardo Quaresma?

I know hes young but i would of had him in the sqaud for his speed. Same with Shaun Wright Phillips for England. I was hoping to see these two guys in Euro 2004.

well, that was probably one in a million match...

the guy has great techinique and is an amazing dribbler but that's all there is to it. he's not a goalscorer, he's not objective and he constantly plays for himself and not for the team. and he has a serious attitude problem: he claims he wont change his style of play... no 22 year old player can become great if he doesn't want to learn... that's what makes him so different from Ronaldo... Ronaldo evolutes...

I don't care for Quaresma's attitude, he's got amazing skill and all the potential in the world but he often forgets that football is a "team" sport.. I don't think he belongs on the squad for at least a couple more years until he changes..

Quaresma is a great player! But he is young and he will learn, and every time he will get better!

but if he was not injured he would play for the younger squad the Under 21!

Well, my prediction list only missed one player. I had Boa Morte instead of Maniche. But I'm happy he was called, he deserves and he can be quite useful to the NT (although IMO clearly not in the starting 11). Moreira, thankfully, ended up being called!

So, it's basically what we all were expecting. I agree with Scolari's choices. The only change I would made would be calling up Meira instead of Beto.

We now have the 23 players that will represent our country in Euro 2004. Let's give them all the support and hope they succeed, in what them and all of us want.

Maybe Meira deserves a place in this squad too, instead of Beto...

And Moreira was a great choice by Scolari !!!

I agree with most of the list..except Beto(Rocha and Meira are way better) Quim(he didnt have a good season, i just dont understand) and maybe Tiago and Postiga who've played shiatty..and Boa Morte screwed up everytime he played for the NT, I feel sorry for him cos he's attitude and he's made a fanatstic season...oh, and i was hoping Miguelito could be called up, cos Va"lento" and Rui Jorge are a disgrace..
