Whoever wins the Superbowl is the best "football" team in the world but if you watched the recent summer olympics then whoever wins the NBA title IS NOT the best basketball team in the world. I believe the Argentinians lay claim to that.

Actually as far as i know there will be a Basketball world cup, the last was won by Yugoslavia after they won the final over Argentina.
Also there's a Baseball world cup and if i recall correctly the champion was Cuba.

I hope the Czech Republic kicks U.S's sorry money making-advertising-in-order-to-get-support-from-a-dumb-public ASS. They should stick to what they do best: bombing nations.

Hmmm, not really. You can even think that's what they do best, but you really want them to keep at it? :fool:

Oh yes, because "money making" and "advertising" are not part of European soccer.

Two things.

1) It doesn't matter that Argentina won the last time national teams represented their countries. For some reason the best players in the United States don't find it appealing to spend their entire offseason playing in a tournament where they absolutely have to win or they're considered failures. You act as if we sent our best players, when in fact it was nowhere close to that. If we sent Shaq, Duncan, Garnett, Kobe, Jason Kidd, Lebron, Chauncey Billups, Dwyane Wade, Elton Brand, etc etc we'd clearly be dominant. But we don't, because some players don't care to represent their country(american athletes are absolutely spoiled) and with the grind of an 82 game season a lot are nursing injuries or just plain need time off to recover before the next season. Make no mistake, the #1 priority for NBA players is to win in the NBA, that's how they get paid. Winning the gold medal or world championship is about 9th on their list, below buying a third bentley and making a rap video. Add in the fact that before this year the NBA was a much more physical style of play than international games(still is to an extent) and players basically can't play defense on the international level the way they were taught to their whole lives, and it's no surprise the rest of the world is able to win those competetions. And yes, the rest of the world is much, much better than it used to be, and that's a good thing.

2) All the cocky Europeans who seem to hate on American soccer need to bite their tongues. Soccer is approximately 14th on the priorities of Americans, behind the NFL, college football, NBA, college basketball, baseball, golf, NASCAR, Tennis, surfing porn on the internet, watching bad movies on HBO, watching mixed martial arts, getting high, discussing politics, and then soccer. There wasn't a professional soccer league worth mentioning here until a couple of years ago when MLS took off. Soccer is very much in the infantile stages of it's development over here. Yet you continue to blather on about how we'll never be any good, which is well within your rights, but there is no basis for that. The only way that happens is if soccer stops growing and the youth programs stop getting support. With soccer exploding at the youth level and becoming more and more popular that is not going to happen. Look at it logically. There is not one thing on this planet that the United States cannot succeed in if the money and support is provided. We have 350 million people here, of all ethnic backgrounds, of all races, creeds and colors. At practically every embassy around the world you have years long waiting lists to come to America. Mexico is pretty good right? Well we have twenty percent of their population here already and half of those still living there want to come. The playerbase is here, and it's far deeper than any European country can lay claim to. It's just a matter of getting the youth and developmental engine up and running, and if there's one thing that will motivate America to do that it's condescending Europeans talking down to us all the time and telling us we can't, especially when a sizeable portion of said fans haven't won a cup in forty years. You'd think you'd learn by now that, historically, Europeans talking smack to America don't do very well. But hey, it's a free world, right? There's another dig I could make in relation to that last remark, but I think I'll let it go.

You guys are freaking retarded. Those are national teams geniuses, not club teams. The best club team in the world is undoubtedly the winner of the NBA, NFL, MLB season. No one has said the US National Team is the World Champion at Basketball.

Jesus H Christ. This America hating is getting old. You do understand a sizeable portion of the American populace disagreed with the Iraq war right? You do understand that having said that we're there now and it's better that they end up with a solid government of the people instead of some fanatical regime or a dictator right?

You also understand that for a solid decade and a half after the cold war the entire combined military might of the world couldn't have stopped the United States armed forces, and yet we're so evil that for the entire decade of the 90s in our evil attempt to expand our power our military operations consisted entirely of trying to get food to starving Africans and stopping mass genodcide? Do you understand that the United Nations, by their own admission, will crumble if we don't continue to contribute an outsized portion of it's bankroll? Do you understand that the U.N. is essentially toothless without our military, and that the reason people are still butchering each other over in the Sudan is because if the US won't stop it noone else will get off their butts, because hey...it's just Africa right, and Africans are for throwing bananas and chanting racial slurs at, am I right? You also understand that the reason the Iraq war is "illegal" is because France, Germany, and Russia were all getting huge under the table bonuses by exploiting the corrupt oil for food program, and as such they refused to acquiesce to any attempt to topple Saddam? You also understand that if you live basically anywhere in Europe the only reason you're not speaking German and eating bratwursts is America's ability to drop bombs, right? Rediculous.

You know, you don't have to love America, and I know it's the cool thing to blame everything in the whole world on us. But even if we are a "collossus astride the world" as we have been called, wouldn't you say we've been a pretty benign collossus? I mean Hitler put people he didn't like into his own personal e-z bake ovens. Stalin starved or murdered millions of his own people. The Roman empire killed and converted millions. On and on I could go. And yet all this hatred for the U.S.A.; when the greatest evidence of us imposing our will on the world is the proliferation of Mcdonalds. Yeah....we r teh debil!! Get over it...

Too late, he even predicted a 2-0 win for the Serbs vs Holland. (H)

I can understand he's pissed though, recent events have shown that not even the Montenegrins want to share a country with the Serbs...what a rejection...that's like Mini-me turning his back on Dr.Evil. (C)

Yes, Americans are very arrogant about their soccer. Why I bet if I walked up to someone on the street right now and asked them why they are so arrogant they might say something like "Wait, we have a team?"

These ads are placed to drum up support. NOT to act in a chauvinistic manner. We live in a nation where the US soccer team needs to publicize the fact that we have a team and that it's going to the World Cup. I wish it wasn't this way but more people will be watching the NBA finals than watching the US team.

I know it's hard for some to lay off the US when it comes to anything but get your facts straight before coming to the forum and making an ass of yourself.

Really? I haven't seen any numbers, but this has been the best NBA Playoffs in years and everyone is saying so. I can't imagine the playoff ratings are low, if anything I bet they're way up.

The Finals ratings WILL be up since we won't have a Pistons vs. Spurs snooze fest.

The NBA ratings in general have been falling quickly since 03.

I just dont like US Overseas politic in the last 50 years...and of course the whole ''AMERICA'' and ''SOCCER'' thing...but i can live with that... :)

I think the football in the US is too young to compete against nations that have 100 years of football tradition.

I think that in 10 or 20 years US will show better football...and probably a better league.

They have the money and the infrastructure to become a better team...

Maybe their problem is that they have to take three steps down in the food chain...and they arent ready to do that... :)
