There was a flash slide with some US players and with that Beware crap.

Atleast it doesn't have any sound on it like some ringtone ads I got a few months ago.

I think it would be pretty sad if a nation went into the World Cup with no self-confidence. It's not ego...it's belief that their team can win.

If you don't like the adverts on here, just count yourself lucky you haven't been in England lately :ewan:

It's a way to advertise American soccer in a country that doesn't care much about the sport. Don't get your panties in a bunch.

This is how free sites on the internet stay open, ad based revenue. Nike pays X-amount of dollars, and sites show the ads Nike wants shown.

In a nation like England or Germany, everyone already loves soccer and is going to watch the World Cup and cheer on their nation. In the USA, we need all the advertising we can get so the team actually gets some support. Without these ads there are a lot of people who wouldn't even know the World Cup was this summer, but now that they know they'll tune in. Ego? Hardly, it's confidence.

It's all part of the Joga movement.

The egos that I don't like are the ones who disregard the U.S. as a competitor. They're not a world class team yet, but they're definitely getting stronger and are good enough to do well in the World Cup.

Exactly. It's all part of Nike giving the game a more rough edge image to appeal to the street and get the kids kicking the ball in the streets.

The "don't tread on me" snake logo is not only well done but has been a big hit with us soccer fans. Although they dropped the don't tread line for copyright reasons I believe and are now using the snake/star symbol with "Beware".

For those lacking in U.S. history knowledge the "don't tread on me" rattle snake was originally a woodcut (by Ben Franklin) and flag developed during the to symbolize unity amongst the colonies during the French & Indian war, and later unity against the Brits during the Revolution.

To further illustrate my point, here's the London Philharmonic:

I like the logo and I applaud Nike for at least making an attempt to bring soccer into mainstream America. You'd have to live here to understand why they're pushing it so hard. The next best alternative is to impose martial law and screw with the cable feeds so it only shows Univision :-p
