Soccer the 10th hardest sport in the world??

WTF are you talking about? Americans didn't invent hockey!

Its kind of ironic though how basketball was invented. Some old white teacher guy wanted to have fun with his gym class because it was getting kind of boring. He hung up a basket on the wall and basketball was invented!!

Now mostly black people play the sport much less white college teachers!!

(I wasn't trying to be racsist)

Well it's played mostly by black ppl because it's the most accessible sport for them.

Let's face it. The majority of families living in poverty are black. And it's cheaper to just find a ball and a court with rims then to play some of the other sports.

And also it's now kind of associated with the hiphop culture as well.

Well, apparently this man needs less 'strength' than a rower, less 'power' than a FIGURE SKATER, less 'nerve' than an NFL player... you decide.

It is not easy to score in basketball, if you think it is you obviously either haven't played it, or haven't played against anyone that can defend worth ****. You know why the pros make it look easy to score? Because they're pros; they're the best out there. It is much harder to become an NBA Basketball Player than a Premiership Soccer Player.
First up, that's what I meant. They are the pro's and that's the top level and the scores are phenomenal. I mean, I've played it, it's not as demanding as many other sports but it's difficult to shoot until you get used to it (which the pro's have), and you need to have some level of endurance but any game that players can sit out half of a match isn't really enduring or particularly physically demanding.

Defending is part of the game, I agree, but when the scorelines regularly reach 100+ you think, 'what's the point?', just get the rebounds. Blocking is great when you see it but the balance is so in favour of the offence in basketball. I'm not saying the pro's aren't top athletes and that it's not a hard sport but I disagree with it being so high up the list when you think about the sports that haven't made the list.

One question about the scoring system here too... It sounds like I've got something against basketball, which I haven't, but it's to do with it again. How on Earth is the NBA an example of durability? 48mins the game lasts, players spend half of that on the bench and they get 3 rests a game not counting time outs. I can see the NHL as an example even though it has similar breaks because those players get smashed about but NBA is a no contact sport. If you pretty much touch someone it's a foul, right?

Also, on here I've seen people listing various sportsmen/women who best show the characteristic being graded for that sport. I can see how that's an indication but if we were going to do that then most sports would be even in certain categories. For example, cyclists would be miles ahead in terms of endurance so Lance Armstrong is a fair point but how much more powerful is Barry Bonds to Roberto Carlos or Jonny Wilkinson? Why not put it in terms of control as well? Barry Bonds just belts the ball, players like Roberto Carlos/Wilkinson, need to put accuracy on their strike. The only way to make it fair is to view the sport as a whole, and baseball wouldn't come high on any of those except in hand-eye coordination.

I've hit upon my other point there, where's control. That's part of sport too, do they need to control a ball, a bat, a car, something else? They've basically given real football a handicap by not including this and putting 'hand-eye coordination'.

...And Joe Montana for analytical aptitude? Why not Fischer or Kasparov?

3)American Football.....oh please I had the misfortune of playing this sport on a semi-pro level for four years and believe me this shouldn't be #3....I played "ironman" -offense,defense,special teams.- and believe me its not demanding .....the only thing this sport does is damage people's bodies......AND you take a break for rest and water : in between each play, time outs-possibly 8 per game (if there is overtime), Half-time 10mins, injuries.etc

4)Basketball..players can be taken out and put in as often as they want

7)Tennis........breaks for players between sets and time outs whenever someone feels like it

.

That does not mean any of those sports are less endurance based than football. Its actually easier to jog than to do nothing, as is done in football between the intense sprints. Hockey is played at over 90% of top speed, and the players never fully recover in the 2 minutes they get to rest. Your points are weak.

cricket will have similar demands as baseball. Rugby will be somewhere between ice hockey and football (soccer) because of the more physical nature of it. Im sure if sky sports made such a list it would be considered crap by Americans, so get them to make one and then we can find the averages to find the true rankings ;)

Look guys, honestly this is all you need for soccer....endurance, decision making. There really isn't a skill that you need to master in order to play high level soccer. There are plenty of soccer players that make a living by being no nonsense type guys who run the pitch, but don't make a hundred moves every game. When you get the ball, you can either dribble (NOT hard, I could do it well when I was 12) or pass (also not hard, I became DAMN good around 15). It really is all about decision making and endurance. If you make poor decisions (like most wannabes and bad players), you're going to suck, but making decisions isn't hard, it's just learning how to not be a selfish prick. There isn't a skill in soccer that you need to master at all, if you think it's hard to run for 90 minutes then clearly you don't see the countless 50 year old men out for their morning jogs every day who do it. Soccer is NOT THAT HARD. [/B]

LOL :D he said there isnt a skill in soccer you dont have to master:kader: um CONTROL;). Your talknig about you mastered dribbling at 12 and all that crap then how comes you didnt make it pro? Im sure you think soccer is just a game of KICK BALL, and since your talking about skills need to master in soccer, what skills are needed in other sports that are considered hard other than this bull**** stories of hitting a baseball dont even mention that because its been said millions of times already, yea and im sure those 50 year old men can play pro soccer too, where the **** are they then???? Dont compare 50 yr old joggers to soccer players because they dont jog around the field the whole time. I watch NFL games and i see these guys get tired after like making a 50 yard run and avoiding tackles and they look like they cant even breathe when they finally get tackled thats sad when you compare it to rugby :mrpimp:

Controlling a ball is not that hard. I haven't played in 2 years, but I can still probably control anything you kicked at me. How come I didn't make pro? Perhaps because I'm American and there aren't many pro leagues, the kids that get the attention are the fastest, and even if you're really good the training facilities are still crap? Don't assume that I think soccer is just kickball ok, I've played it since I was very young and became pretty damn good. The skills that everyone is assuming that are necessary for soccer you can usually compensate for by being smart, as long as you have the basics down.

The Legend
I have no control with a ball, but when i play left or right back nobody scores on me...usually because i have the attitude of a girl with PMS and end up hacking them down.

I think that makes me ace. (H)

Anyway, I think a few sports are harder than soccer.

By the way, Kickball is a different game entirely, it's modifyed baseball, it even has leagues.

If you tried to take me down I would throw one of my Karl Malone like elbows. Then I would walk around pretending like I didn't do anything.
