I agree with trialing Saddam under Iraq law - then the West wont be blamed in the outcome, no retaliation.

If Iraq sentence him to death - they get there revenge and those who support Saddam will go underground.

If the coalition kill Saddam - justice wont be serve and Iraq will unite over a common enermy (the coalition).

Also I have heard about the US ignoring the International Court, when the Iraq war kicked off people wanted to trial Henry Kissenger for war crimes against Chilie's citizens during Pinochets
regime in 1972.

First off, the US isn't a "democracy." I believe that US military personel should be tried by our OWN courts, not some court in Europe. Don't know what the problem is with that... Are you saying that the courts of the United States should start putting UN soldiers on trial? It's the same thing.

And about Europe fighting back... thanks for the smile. It's not about looking tough and feeling hard, it's about serving justice on our OWN citizens, and not letting some court in another country do it.

Each country has it's OWN laws that govern their citizens. I have a feeling that most of the citizens of your own country aren't willing to throw those laws away as easily as you are.

You just don't get it. I am in favor of my own country trying our own citizens. Not some court in Europe, or even an "international court" in the US.

Calling you a paranoid buffoon was a statement of fact and not a childish dig........and i only make that observation from the many things you have posted here over time.........Every rational person should be open to a debate on a subject.The point of this is not to change your mind but to enlighten you as to how other people from around the world think.I do not take the view i take to present an anti American tirade.I have the same opinions about my Government too.If any British citizens commit crimes anywhere in the world ,then they should be tried in a court of law where the crimes took place.As an example to the hypocritic attitude of the American Government ,why did they bring the Iraqi people they rounded up in Iraq,to Cuba with the intention of trying them in America?Surely going with your opinion they should have been detained and tried in Iraq by Iraqis.See, its double standards....one law for the USA and another law for everyone else........

Okay, now I am just cranky. But I will say this, it is very typical of a left winger to try and "enlighten" someone who they feel is beneath them. Left wingers tend to think they are above everyone else who doesn't think them, and your statement proves it to me in your case.

If I were you, I would research what your government thinks about this topic. The topic being debated, if I am not mistaken, is that American "military" people were those who would not be tried under the international court. I bet your government wouldn't let members of your military be tried under the international court.

NOW then. If we are debating someone from America who goes to another country and breaks the laws of that country, then I have no sympathy and they should be tried in the country where the crimes took place. But in military matters, it's a totally different subject as politics can be used as motivation to go after generals or commanders. There are many enemies of the US in the UN and that is not out of the question.

There are no Iraqi's in Cuba... unless they were caught in Afghanistan. And the reason they are there is because of the way the war was conducted. it wasn't a "war" so to speak, and therefore, the people can be treated and classified in a different manner. I am not saying it's right, but that's another topic.

And yes, there are laws that are different for the US and the rest of the world. Every country should have it's own laws and live by them.

And if you didn't notice, I think Saddam should be tried by his OWN people and his OWN courts, which is completely in line with my views on the US and the international court.

OK i thought you were refering to civilians.........but as an example ,not so long ago some British soldiers were tried for rape in Cyprus,they were found guilty and they are still in prison in Cyprus.This country for all its faults,respects international law and our Government does not intervine if members of our armed forces commit crimes overseas.Of course they carry out their own investigations but they are never removed from the country in question,where they will remain until the trial and then the government respect the verdict of that court.That is the way it should be done.Whatever country you happen to be in ,you have to abide by their laws and answer to that country's legal system.
And why do you feel you are beneath me,i certainly do not feel superior to you simply because of my views.....you are a very intolerant person........and you obviously regard anyone who is not right wing and disagrees with you as left wing.Thats the problem with your country as a whole .....its a very insular society and you not only do not know much about the rest of the world but you dont want to know either.I know many Americans so i know that you are just one side of the coin.....and its due to the cool Americans i know that help me to remain hopeful that it isnt the whole of your society thats screwed....like our country its just a minority of people.....a powerful minority but a minority non the less........

Bush was probably disgusted that they were found out,not disgusted with the abuse.They were not even all POW's.....the US rounded up all men and boys of military age and detained then interogated them.........that sure dont seem the way to win over the hearts and minds of the people to me.........Vietnam 2.........

"Major General Geoffrey Miller, who was running the Guantanamo operations, is now on the ground serving as deputy manager for detention operations," Brigadier-General Mark Kimmitt, spokesman for U.S. forces in Iraq, told a news conference in Baghdad.
Kimmitt said Miller would help ensure proper detention and interrogation practices in Iraq.
Controversy has also surrounded the Guantanamo camp because terror suspects have been held there with no charges or legal representation. Photos of detainees shackled and being forced to kneel in chain link cages sparked international outrage.
