This is a grey area but I would just like to pick out an article on your site. 'Sexually terrorising a 14 year old girl' doesn't make that person a pedophile. That's incorrect. It makes that person an 'ephebophile'.
"Pedophile, pedophilia, or pedophilia is a person 16 years of age or older who is primarily or exclusively sexually attracted to children who have not begun puberty (girls 10 years old or less, and boys 11 year old or less, on average). The prepubescent child must be at least five years younger than the person in the case of adolescent pedophiles before the attraction can be diagnosed as pedophilia". - Wikipedia.
The term Pedophile is sometimes used incorrectly in modern day society and I thought I'd just point that out to you.

Ephebophilia isn't even an official recognised disorder. The reason for that is that you're talking about finding someone who has started puberty as attractive. On an animalistic level, there is nothing wrong with that. Only our laws change that, and they vary nation to nation. I mean in loads of countries, hooking up with a 16yo would be considered ephebophilic, but in Australia it's legal, and if she was hot I'd go there.

Lee is right that the true definition of paedophilia is prepubescent though.

Colloquially it's often used for anyone seeking a younger partner, but that's just social snobbery based on some people's morals

That's a myth. It's 16 regardless, unless you're in South Australia or Tasmania - in which case it's 17.

Your age is irrelevant, unless the person is younger than 16. In which case in most states it's a defence if the person is above 12, and there is less than 3 years age gap.

Either way, the law is 16 in Australia - apart from SA and Tas where it's 17. Not sure where this whole "it's 16 if you're both under 18, but otherwise 18" myth came from.

EDIT: Oh and in Queensland Sodomy is an offence until 18 - but normal sex ok at 16.

I just looked it up now, what I've been taught (your stated myth), probably is just due to a confusion with the +3 years rule (16+3=19)

Yeah, though that isn't really a rule - just a defence, and it varies state to state. In some states the defence is usually less than two years difference, in others it's not between 12-16, but 10-16.

I think it's fair enough. 16 is right for the minimum age in my opinion, and under that I hardly think it's statutory rape if the two people are nearly the same age.
