Well... i think its time i started to add tips and hints that i think might be some help to the people out there... Basically i play as Vicenza (i only knew 1 of their players when i picked them) in Career mode and i've done it all on World Class level. I'm into the second season... the first season i fulfilled all the contract requirements etc... and got promoted to Serie A... about so i bought Le Tallec (Liverpool); Ferrera (Juve?); Aldiere (Arsenal); Cruz (Munich) --- none of them have done anything special yet... but i'm training them
This season i've played 8 games and i'm doing not quite as good 3 wins, 4 draws 1 loss (my last game 4-1, but 2 of their goals were in the 90' after i dropped the controller out of disgust)...
So that puts my in 8th. (GF 14, GA 13) 5 points behind Inter who lead the competition.
Tips are for the X-box... but they are pretty much general
I hope they can give you the vibe to come up and play World Class with me...
Spurious Tips: -
1. Headless Chickens Dont Last long --- Don't just run around stupid holding the sprint button... you'll lose. You also only need to win by 1 goal to collect three points... if you're winning, change your style of play to suit... hold onto the ball doing nothing just to run the clock down is sometimes just as important as scoring another to go 2 up...
2. 1 on 1's & in-box shooting ... Learn to use the low shot button... add some angle = goals !!! (this is left trigger/walk button and shoot/B button)
3. Why or Y? -- When all things have broken down, your defence has gone MIA (Missing in Action) and all seems lost with their striker running unopposed in on goals.... don't look to the heavens shouting Why? Why? Why? ... Hold down Y/through ball/yellow button and charge your keeper out....
4. Be Confident --- develop your skills on the lower levels... be confident running the ball down the field... running it through the middle... holding onto the ball (both as a team and individual)... you'll need ALL these skills... How do you get confident ?? BY TRYING NEW THINGS --- often. Stop being Billy BoringHead
Yes i'm talking to You!
5. Jeckle and Hyde --- Attack is where your flair comes out... be creative be daring... and be patient... in defence on the other hand - DEFEND UGLY.... Hack players, boot the ball up field, out of the grounds... just anywhere if you're in trouble... nobody will remember how many times you kicked the ball out... they will remember if you lose 5-0 though...
6. Defence -- noticed yet that the players in FIFA2004 actually can jockey ... ever wondered why ? ... Its because defence is more than running as fast as you can at the attacker and trying to tackle them...
* Some of your best defence should be done without ever needing to press either of the tackle buttons... learn how to run to fill the path between players, so you intercept passes etc... don't just rush towards them...
* Hang off players sometimes... but if instinct requires your strikers or other players to rush their defenders, go for it... it sets up lots of 1 on 1's counter attacks...
*The aim of defence is to stop them from scoring ... not from stopping them from reaching within 30 metres of your goals... therefore NEVER rush your central defenders up to stop anyone (usually opposition midfield) who has just come over halfway. And in the same time... some of your best defence can be done by the player that just sprinted 50 metres back when 40 metres seemed like it was a waste of time.
7. (KEY TIP) OFF THE BALL .... use quick off the ball tactics in both defence and attack... off tha ball followed by lob is a good way to clear the ball... off the ball and then a lob when your striker is just outside the 18 yard box is also good... don't be afraid to bring the ball down with your chest either... then just push away from the defender and low shoot
8. Beating players -- Its not really that hard... simple is always best, a little nudge of the freestyle button for a jink... a touch of the sprint button, a change in angle... its all you need... stop trying to do walk 360 spins... save that to embarrass your friends...
9. Play the easy ball --- On the other hand... beating players is important, what is equally important to know however is when to not try to beat a player... If you're running down the sideline trying to beat the defender, and it starts to look like you wont... slam the d-pad so you turn 90 degrees away from the defender, then look back and inside... you should have an unmarked defender straight back from you, or a central midfielder unmarked coming through... give it to them... you can try to beat the player next time...
Also, if you're winning in a game the opponent will push more people forward... take advantage of this by using through balls... mainly given from your own half, from your striker to the winger (if wing play is set), or if you've drawn their CB. lots of 1 on 1's...
10. Um... maybe i shouldn't mention this... especially with the kids coming onto the board.... but i actually learnt and played a lot of season 1 while drunk... i had about 15 drinks of Whiskey during the time i first started playing World Class Career with my team... i guess the point is... Its a game, have fun with it...
The rest of the tips regarding free kicks and everything else can be found elsewhere... my were mainly just general overall 'vibe' advice tips... i could have put in basic trick moves for the x-box eg. put all the actual controls in but you can basically read and adapt all the others ones mentioned on other systems..
Oh and also... don't get cocky, just when you think FIFA2004 is getting to easy... you'll probably lose the next game... so stay in 'the zone' .. also look at ways to improve.... i personally have hardly ever used the black individual player run button... thats what i'm going to try to master next
